Deadline is reporting that Lone Wolf and Cub is getting the H’wood treatment and Justin Lin is set to direct.

Kamala Films acquired the rights to the 1970s manga series, and have hired David and Janet Peoples to write the adaptation. The Peoples are credited with working on Blade Runner, Unfogiven and Twelve Monkeys.

Seven Lone Wolf and Cub movies were created in Japan and starred Tomisaburo Wakayama in the 1970s and early ’80s.  There is no word on a potential release date for this adaptation.

Holy spirit of Mount Fujii san.
I began doing Aikido when i was 14 and practically got a volume of Lone Wolf and Cup as a welcome gift. Been reading and loving this series since, and the promise of another Lone Wolf movie is so exiting that I almost …… no! I just wet myself.

Are they going to pull an “Akira” and attempt to Westernize the whole thing?
If so, cue the nerd rage (including my own)…

That’s a decent pedigree, but I am skeptical. Lone Wolf and Cub was a long series, nearly as long when compiled as Akira. And just like Akira, it would be nearly impossible to condense down to a Hollywood “epic” of little more than an hour long.

They should just pick a storyline and make the movie about that. The old Japanese movies did this – and they were epic!
