Or - “When The Girl Next Door Comes From Another Dimension…”
In our Hero Histories to date, we’ve seen martyrs and martinets, rockmen and rubber boys, 12th level geniuses and 20th century rejects, but today’s Hero History subject is one of the most relatable of the various Legionnaires throughout the years. Her story is very familiar, a girl from a good family who leaves home and ends up bonding with a kid from the wrong side of the tracks. Her story becomes inextricably intertwined with that of her longtime beau, encompassing one of the Legion’s longest-running and most successful romances, and the depth of love is as impressive as his super-powers in many ways. She’s the sweetest, the calmest of Legionnaires, even at times when all seems lost, and the nature of her powers allow her a sense of serenity that most LSHers can only dream of. In short, she’s the Legionnaire I’d be most likely to fall in love with, and, I have to say this… her classic costume showcases one of the finest derrieres of the 31st century. This, then, is your Hero History of Tinya Wazzo of Bgztl… Phantom Girl!
Or “Puzzling… Intriguing… Entertaining… A Little Infuriating… Must Be Dave Sim.”
Most of you, our Faithful Spoilerites, are too young to remember the black and white independent comics boom of the 80’s, a time when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were more than a color-coded merchandising phenomenon, where being able to actually draw wasn’t really a prerequisite, a time when having a unique artist’s perspective was not only not uncommercial, it was practically de rigeur. It was a time where names were made and reputations created, a time which really and truly changed comics as we know them (for good or ill.) One of the reps coined during this time was that of Dave Sim, the guy who drew that cute Conan parody with the aardvark. Now, two decades on, the aardvark is gone, the “funny animal parodist” perception has been forever altered, and Dave Sim is back with something truly unique…
With 125,000 people attending the San Diego Comic Con, the city of San Diego is bursting at the seems. With a limit on the number of people that can get into the convention hall, and growth expected, is it time for Comic Con International to move the show somewhere else?
If you’ve been watching the Major Spoilers website these last couple of weeks, you know there is a huge comic book convention going on in San Diego, California. The show sold out over a month ago, and hotel rooms went the first day, so anyone who wasn’t on the ball, is now sitting on their couch or chair at the office suffering from SDCC Non-Attendance Remorse.
To help you get over your suffering, we take a look at five reasons you should be glad you didn’t go to the largest North American comic book convention of the year.
I know people who have watched the Watchmen trailer over 100 times since it was released last week. I’ve also seen people bicker back and forth over the shots seen, and how close of an adaptation Zack Snyder will bring to the big screen.
To help in your decision making, Major Spoilers has gone through the trailer and compared shots from the movie with shots from the graphic novel. Take the jump to see the comparison for yourself.
UPDATE: Looks like Empire Online beat me to the punch by a couple of hours on this story. I honestly didn’t realize it until just a few minutes ago when submitting the story to DIGG. That’s what I get for sleeping last night.
Today is a day to celebrate - Major Spoilers turns two years old! The last year has been a roller coaster of a ride with the addition of a little Major Spoilers-ite joining the family, legal wrangling with some poo-poo heads, the temporary hiatus of the site, and the huge return with more reviews, news, and a brand new podcast.
It’s been one hell of a year, and I have YOU to thank for it.

It has been a real struggle to write the reviews for Final Crisis. Every time I pick up the book, I get angry over what I am reading, but then after a while, my blood stops boiling and I give it a second, third, and more often than not, a fourth and fifth reading to come to some kind of understanding with what Morrison is trying to accomplish. I see and respect what he is doing, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.
Oh boy! Another weekly series from DC! While that exclamation may send shivers up and down the spines of those who struggled through Countdown (to Final Crisis), I have higher hopes for Trinity. Busiek has proven he can tell brilliant super hero stories, and Bagley’s art is always top notch, but does the second issue hold up to the first?
Greenskinned Goliaths, Skinheaded Mad Scientists, Chuck’s out at DC, Chuck’s IN at Wildstorm, random ramblings, rabid reviews, muties havin’ babies, and… Da BOYZ! All this and more, in the nineteenth episode of the podcast that means well… The Major Spoilers Podcast! Keep the kiddies out of the room, as this episode gets a little blue.
In this outing, Image founders head for home, wall-crawlers head back to the big screen, X-Men head back to Earth, DC’s Big Three head for trouble, the next big thing is twenty years ago, and we tackle head on one of the world’s great conundrums: Can Logan’s claws pierce Steve Rogers’ shield? Plus, a look back at Frank Miller’s opus. All this and much much more on this, as the podcast reaches the age of majority.
In last week’s review of Robin #174, I wondered what was going to happen with the Tim/Stephanie/Robin/Spoiler relationship now that Stephanie has returned to Gotham City from her sojourn in Africa. The Robin/Spoiler special released this past week from DC Comics clears up some of those unanswered questions.
Josh LeBar draws on all kinds of life experiences when giving voice to Flash Thompson for “The Spectacular Spider-Man.”
LeBar, best known for his role as agent Ari Gold’s arch rival Josh Weinstein on HBO’s “Entourage,” has lived the life of both a prep jock and an aspiring super hero … so taking on Flash Thompson’s persona wasn’t much of a reach.
I dig the Robin title. I’ve liked the character of Tim Drake Wayne since he was first introduced way back in August of 1989 (Batman #436). I liked what happened with the Robin character following One Year Later (for better or worse). I’ve liked what I’ve seen with Robin trying to get his love life in order and really coming into his own as a powerful character. But I have to say, the last several issues playing up the “Who is Spoiler?” story line left me pretty flat.
Or - “If You Had Powder Blue Skin, You’d Probably Show Off Too…”
Talok VIII is an anomaly in the worlds of the Legion. It’s a hidden, backwater world of swords and sorcery, the kind of place that Red Sonja or Claw the Unconquered wouldn’t feel at all out of place, and it’s favorite daughter has a tendency to dress in a manner that would befit Sonja as well. As with last week’s entrant, she was that rarest of Legionnaire stories, a hero so successful that she was offered LSH membership in the middle of a mission. She was also a part of the Legion’s longest and most successful romance, standing by her man in the face of madness, death, even the unraveling of their very universe. Like the darkness she manipulates, today’s historical subject inspires fear in some, and a deep calm in others. She’s loyal, powerful, and chockful of surprises, a feat in itself for a woman wearing less fabric than my average pair of socks. This, then, is your Major Spoilers Hero History of Tasmia Mallor of Talok VIII… Shadow Lass!
