REVIEW: Suicide Squad #4

With their fist mission successfully completed, Waller spares no time sending Task Force-X onto their next mission. With Captain Boomerang as the new leader, the power struggle begins between him and Deadshot. Previously in Suicide Squad: After rescuing a baby who happened to be the cure to the zombie disease, Task Force-X was on the run, precious cargo in hand seeking out Amanda Waller. After safely and successfully completing their first assignment, the team is thrown for a loop when Waller resets the micro bomb clocks and they are sent onto the next mission. Accompanying them is a brand new leader who thinks he can call the shots better – Captain Boomerang.

This issue picks up with Task Force-X  faced with a new enemy, the terrorist group – Basilisk. As we slowly start to discover more about each character on the team, I am more and more drawn into the story. Most of the characters have an already built back story attached to them, yet readers are still enthralled with finding out more. Why are they on this team? How are these characters going to interact with each other? I really enjoy how Adam Glass does not hold your hand through these answers either. Readers are shown bits and pieces of each characters’ personalities and begin trying to fill in the holes. I personally am a huge Harley Quinn fan, and love how she is being written. Her banter with Deadshot reveals a lot about both characters in a very entertaining way, as does the many power struggle panels between Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and Diablo. Here, readers are getting well laid out character development with each character. Federico Dallocchio’s art compliments the writing and draws you into the story even more. It makes for a great involved read that keeps you guessing.

TWISTS AND TURNS CONTINUE…

One of the best things about this storyline is that you’re constantly being taken by surprise. You don’t know which character will be killed next. The line between good and evil is blurred, and it makes for an edge of your seat read. With the clock counting down on the micro bombs, you’re reading with a sense of urgency, you’re yelling in your head for them to hurry, while they race to the finish line. The team members are far from friends, and tension runs high, you never know who is going to do what. It gives the story a very raw feeling; they are unpredictable and even less stable. It makes for great twists and unexpected surprises that fill the pages of this story.

BOTTOM LINE: GREAT STORY ARC

I would highly recommend not only this issue as a great read but the whole story arc. I’ve followed Suicide Squad from issue one, and have yet to be disappointed. The art is great as is the writing, and your never left bored. The issue leaves off with the Task Force-X being thrown into all out chaos like they have never seen before. I am defiantly looking forward to reading how the handle this predicament their fellow team mate has left them in, and am giving this issue 4 out of 5 Stars.
