MOVIES: Michael Bay tells TMNT fans to relax

Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherMarch 20, 20127 Comments2 Mins Read

After the brouhaha that erupted over Michael Bay’s comments regarding the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie from Nickelodeon, Michael Bay posted on his message board that everyone should essentially relax.

Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world.

According to the Ninja Pizza website, Peter Laird has no involvement with the movie, and Kevin Eastman has seen the script, but there were no other comments on the creators’ involvements with the movie.

Michael Bay does know how to capture the spotlight and stir up a lot of attention about one of his projects, often months and years before the release of the movie releases.  Certainly with a huge fan base, Bay will need to do something quite spectacular and amazing in order to win these fans to his side.  He did it with the first Transformers movie (to an extent), and if he does it with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, he could have a huge hit on his hands.  Let’s hope it doesn’t turn out like the third Transformers movie, though…

The movie is still scheduled to arrive in theaters over the Christmas 2013 holiday.

“Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script.”

I wouldn’t have to read a script of a movie directed by Darth Vader to know it would be Imperial propaganda.

Michael Bay’s movie version has zero connection to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles property in the comics except in name and certain characters in the story. It’s Non-canon and thus is not the official origin of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.I’m a big fan of the Turtles and could have probably freak out as well but I realize that reaction would be moot.Fact is whether I like it or not.. the movie is going to happen.

I could care less about Michael Bay creating his own mythology with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and turning them in Alien Ninja turtles because I know at the end of the day, the origin will not change in the comics like this.

This is like Warner Bros changing Superman’s look and certain aspects of his origin in the new movie and those who have read the books might have also noticed his new look as well, but this is a copyright issue and I digress.

In conclusion if the fans really hate Michael Bays different version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles then just make your feelings known by not watching the movie when it comes out.Follow the example of the Dragon Ball Z fans and ignore the movie completely.Hit Michael Bay in his wallet and the movie studio giving him the money to make this film. That’s all you need to do to make your statement.

For the fans of the Ninja Turtles, if you don’t want to see the movie then why not check out the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show on Nickelodeon.I’m still on the fence with the look of the show but it I willing to give it a chance. The new show just might be really good.Hopefully it’s as good as the cartoon show that was on the Fox network, which had cameo appearance by Usagi Yojimbo and had some excellent ninja battles.

Hey, Michael Bay can now give the TNMTs the same treatment he gave the Transformers! The legions of Turtles fans out there may now rejoice, all two of you! Really, Mr. Bay, have you run out of good ideas or something? Can’t you afford the license on a good project, like, say Atomic Robo? Besides, didn’t somebody already make a live-action TMNTs movie? If I remember right, it made Howard the Duck and the Mario Bros live action movies look good. To quote Zaphod Beeblebrox “Augh!!! My brains!!!”

Now I know you’re just trolling… Those movies were pretty awesome.

Yeah, in the same way that toilet paper is pretty awesome. But that doesn’t mean you want to hang it on your wall. I’d rank the Turtles movies up there with the later Godzilla movies. Pretty fun to watch if you’ve eaten some sandwiches, but avoid them like the plague if you have your brain turned on.
