Here’s some really interesting news for those hanging on every bit of news regarding the new Superman movie. Warner Bros. has announced that Michael Shannon will star as General Zod, who will go toe-to-toe with the Man of Steel, played by Henry Cavill.
Snyder stated, “Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”
If you haven’t seen Shannon in the HBO series Boardwalk Empire, you’re missing out on some intense acting. If he brings the crazy to Zod in the movie, it will be full of awesome.
And if you didn’t catch it earlier, WB announced the movie’s title will be Man of Steel. I’m wondering if this is to distance itself from the last Superman movie, and let audiences know this is going to be something different?
The Man of Steel is written by David Goyer, based on a story by Goyer and producer Christopher Nolan.

Do we have to do Zod again? Aren’t there any other villains Superman can fight?
I maintain that Geoff Johns’ Brainiac storyline could easily be adapted into a movie.
re: Superman Returns, I think the biggest issue I had with the movie was making Superman out to be a dead-beat, absent father. The poem at the end of the movie made very little sense, it was as if he was comparing his being a father to the actions of his father. His father died, but made it so he could live. Superman left while Lois was pregnant, comes back much, much later and barely acknowledges his son. How much back child support does he owe I wonder?
