DIGITAL COMICS: Day and Date release now hits 50% mark

According to ComiXology, PR Guru Chip Mosher, digital day and date releases have hit a major milestone.

In a recent press release touting the number of weeks the ComiXology app has been in the top grossing iPad Apps list (nine in a row), the news that 50% of the comics released this week in comic shops are also available as digital day and date is surprising.  Each month the number of digital day and date releases has been in the increase, but I did not know it had hit the mid-way mark.

Next year, Marvel plans on releasing more of its titles as digital day and date releases, and if this trend continues, this time next year we may see nearly every comic available as a digital day and date release.  And with DC confirming the digital day and date release of 52 did better than expected as a digital release, this is good news for new comic readers who have digital devices ranging from Kindle, Nook, iPhone, and the 800 pound gorilla, the iPad.

do we see this to be a rapid demise to hanging out at our favorite comic book shop? I just got the Kindle fire and have to admit, it was pretty easy buying J.L.#3 and reading it. Will our local comic book shop go the way of our local video store!???
