New York, NY, September 27—Robert Harras has been named Editor-in-Chief, VP, DC Comics, it was announced today by DC Comics Co-Publishers Jim Lee and Dan DiDio. Harras will oversee editorial for DC Comics, DC Universe, MAD Magazine and Vertigo and will be based in New York City, reporting directly to the Co-Publishers. Holy crap.
Though he was the Editor of Marvel when I first really got into comics, I’ve always felt in hindsight he never brought the same care and feeling for the properties as someone like Joe Q. This, of course, is both a good and bad thing. Age of Apocalypse happened under his tenure, right? That’s a good thing. The Spider clone saga also happened. That personally was not so good.

This is the Bob Harras who did one of my favorite runs of Avengers ever and who undermined the X-Men group as editor and set them on the path of decline that led them to where they are today, right? In my book this is very bad news for DC, or would be if I thought for one second Didio will stop micro-managing the line…

I forgot about the crapfest that was Avengers: The Crossing. Good times indeed. LOL

From the guy who brought us The Clone Saga, and the ghost Punisher(he was EIC, and I know Marvel Knights was Joe Q and Palmiotti’s baby, Harras was incharge, and thus to blame), comes the next odd move out of DC.

I am so wrong about Bob Harras. He’d fit so well at DC. He was so used to beating a dead horse, with the Spider Clone saga that lasted years, he will fit in so well at DC.

seriously reread your old mags from before infinite crisis. all the books were cooking and getting great then came the one year later crap and loused it all up. everything since then hasn’t been true to any of the characters. i shuddered from head to toe on this announcement and can’t wait for DC to find their quesada to raise them up out of the muck again. would have been better to stick geoff johns in that spot.

I agree fully with letting Geoff Johns become the EIC of DC. All his ideas and story lines seem to meddle with everything else that is going on in the DCU, atleast with him sitting in the big creative chair you’d hope for some sense of uniformity. But even that would be too much to hope for.
