So, we're half way through this year of our lord 2012, so I wonder what have been the highlights? Comics, movies, pop-culture in general?
The comics I've been loving are The Flash (Manapul might be my new favorite everything), and John's work on JL, GL and Aquaman. The big "events" have been a bit of a let down. The Avengers Vs X-Men central title has been okay, but far from great. And while I'm really enjoying Snyder's Batman, and the Court Of Owls tale there, I didn't really care for the Night Of The Owls cross-overs.
There's a movie poll on my FaceBook page (Favorite movie so far this year, check it out here to vote, https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cat-Halo-Movies/252936541426409), and my votes went to, amongst others, Avengers (obviously), The Raid (due to excessive ass-kickery), and Jaws (says a lot about modern movies, that one of the best cinema experiences I've had this year is over 30years old).
What about you guys? Fav books? Music (Red Hot Chili Peppers still ROCK live)? Movies (vote at Cat Halo Movies on FaceBook)? Anything and everything (Wrestling has been a bit up and down so far, 'Mania was cool but it's been Meh since)...?

So far this year I've been more than pleased with "Green Lantern: The Animated Series" (which I count as starting this year despite the preview of the first episode last year) and the whole Cartoon Network "DC Nation" block in general.  Despite my initial dislike of the animation style for the GL series, I've grown to like it well enough.  The stories are great, and they have introduced several of the other Lantern groups to people who might not know of them yet (Aside from Green, they fight against and alongside one of the Red Lanterns, they have had a couple of encounters with Star Sapphires and in the season finale Saint Walker of the Blue Lantern Corps arrived to help Kilowog and Mogo).  And I love the silly little bits during commercial breaks, such as the Teen Titans shorts, the asian baby that turns into Superman, the shorts with the clay Superheros with kids voices, etc.  I've even grown quite fond of "Young Justice", a series I initially wasn't quite as interested in.  DC might not have the greatest track record with live action movies that aren't Batman, but they sure have gotten compelling animated TV series down pat.

Also in TV, I've been happy with the recently started new season of "Futurama".  While some seem to think it isn't as good as it used to be, I think they've managed to keep the spirit of the show while updating it to include some more modern jokes (such as the eyePhones from last season and the recent episode that poked fun at the last election with a futuristic twist).  There have been a couple of weaker episodes, but overall I'm quite enjoying it.

I can't say much for movies as I'm too broke to see them in the theater 99% of the time, but I will say I'm glad that Avengers turned out well enough that I've heard so little in the complaints department.  As I've mentioned before, this is a movie I've been waiting many, many years for and I am thrilled that Marvel managed to build a movie with a formula similar to the comics on which they are based.  The fact that it seems enjoyed by fans and casual movie goers alike speaks volumes.
