I'm going to see Red Hot Chili Peppers in a few weeks, for about the sixth time. They are probably my favorite band, but I know they can be very hit and miss playing live. And this got me thinking... What is the best concert you've been to? I have a few. The first real gig I was at was Soundgarden supported by White Zombie, Mud Honey and Pennywise. As first gigs go, that was a pretty awesome one. My next favorite would be Chili Peppers, supported by Foo Fighters and Queens Of The Stone Age. Three amazing rock bands, at an amazing venue. Slane Castle, which is essentially a field with an amazing view that is also a natural amphitheater (http://www.slanecastle.ie/castle/castle_concert_photos.php).
What about you guys?

The only concerts I've seen have been Kid Rock, Aerosmith, K.D. Lang, and the Dixie Chicks. I liked all of them well enough but they were had very different atmospheres.

My problem with the Chili Peppers live is that Anthony Kiedis cannot sing. He can write a song like a badass but his voice is like torture when he sings live. Still a badass show.

I've seen a bunch of bands. Metallica; Pantera; Ozzy; STP; Aerosmith; Staind; Korn; all sorts of country music acts; and way too many local bands to even begin to start listing them, among others.

But I saw a band called Reveille http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reveille_%28band%29
at an Ozzfest one year. They were on the second stage, in the middle of the afternoon, and no one had ever heard of them. I picked up a CD of theirs months before on a whim at a store (yes, they used to have those) and simply adored the rap/core angst at the time, and some of my friends enjoyed it too.

So, we didn't even realize that they were going to be playing the second stage when we got there, ended up forcing our way to the front of the second stage before they came on (not too hard between bands) and started rocking the hell out. Well, I guess Reveille didn't have many fans because, as I was banging my head along with each note and singing along with each lyric, at some point during the show each member of the band acknowledged me and my three friends standing in front, climaxing with the lead singer letting us get some mic time. It was a unique pleasure.

After the show the guys were literally walking around during the rest of the day long festival, and I recognized them straight away, as they did me and my group of friends. We talked, partied, hung out for an hour or so before they had to leave for the next show. The band broke up soon after this but, besides local shows that were just really fun because I knew everyone there, this was my favorite time at a concert ever, even if it wasn't the most fun or the best music.

My favorite concert was the one my stepsister took me to for my 18th birthday present, Rob Zombie's Hellbilly Deluxe tour.  It wasn't just because it had some pretty good music (because Monster Magnet and Fear Factory were also there), it wasn't just because there were all kinds of beautiful semi-goth type girls there (there is something hot about a girl with colorful dyed hair, miniskirt and spiked bracelets), it wasn't even for the stripper that came out for "Space Lord" (which was quite nice) but because it was the first and only concert I ever got to see with two of my closest friends (both of whom died over the next three years).

I also got a kick out of Rob Zombie's stage setup and the costumed dancers that would come out.  It was more than just hearing music live and loud, it was also watching a little show as an added bonus.

And I made a few new friends both there and at a party we got invited to afterwards.

It was well worth being even more hard of hearing for two days after.  But no matter what concert I've been to after, none seem to compare exactly to how fun that one was with all the reasons I've listed and then some.
