I just recently finished this book by Ernest Cline (ok, I actually listened to the audiobook because I spend so much time either trapped at a desk or driving for my job that I've found they're great ways to pass time when I don't have a Major Spoilers podcast to listen to).

The book was a loving tribute to everything nerdy and geeky from the 80's. While I was born in the 80's, I have enough memory of them coupled with knowledge I've gained from other sources, I loved every reference. You can't go more than a couple paragraphs without hitting a reference, and it is amazing. The sheer amount of research that had to be done for this book is great, and the fact that Wil Wheaton reads the audiobook just made it all better. I especially loved when Wil Wheaton was brought up in the book. The meta-ness of Wil Wheaton reading an audiobook that mentioned Wil Wheaton was delicious.

Has anyone else experienced this wonderful book?

I just go the hardcover, and the first 2 chapters were outstanding. I really enjoy the whole prologue and love how the future looks. The scary thing is I can see this happening. It is a great read so far.

And I'm Finished, "Ready Player One" Was an outstanding book and a must ready for really anyone.  I was a little put off at the first part of the book because it was just going back to and forth.  Yes we get it you know a lot about the 80's and so did a lot of other people.  But the main part of the book "The Hunt" was with out a doubt AWESOME!!!!!

I do hope that WB makes this into a movie soon.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Did you know that the author actually started an Egg Hunt of his own after the paperback was released? Apparently there was a message hidden in the text of the hardcover and paperback versions of the book that led to a website. The winning gunter got a Delorean. http://www.ernestcline.com/blog/2012/06/05/three-hidden-keys-open-three-secret-gates/
