I see lots of votes for Unbreakable in the future.

Did anyone see Special or Super? Both are pretty dark, and black comedies in their own way.

Donnie Darko

I second this.  The director's cut of the movie made so much more sense.  Also, don't EVER see Sarah Darko...it's a craptastic sequel of craaaaap.

The Incredibles. It's a great, fun, funny original superhero movie.
Darkman. Sam Raimi's first foray in to the superhero type movies is dark, funny, and Liam Neeson is WAY over the top in most of it.
Push is a very interesting little movie. Not sure how successful it is, but it is worth the watch.

Unbreakable is a great film.

I actually enjoyed Hancock.

Chronicle is tremendously fantastic.

The Matrix is Cyberpunk Kung-Fu Superman... but if you mean things more closely conforming to the genre (or even self-identifying as a superhero film) I'd probably go with The Incredibles, Megamind, and Sky High.

If you expand it to include superhero tropes and trappings- most commonly paranormal powers- without necessarily the heroics or costumes, the field opens quite a bit.

These are allmreallymgood. I wish there would be a top 5 on this topic. I also think best non superhero comic book adaptation would be good.

Does Zapped! with Scott Baio count? He's got powers.  Or maybe Meteor Man or Blankman...hmmm...

Robocop
I liked Sky High, but didn't care too much for Zoom.
