I was reviewing some posts on the main site when I came across this image:

I have not read any of Ultimate X-Men but I am assuming this is an image of Kitty Pryde. Doing a quick web search for the title suggests Kitty is the focus of the series.

So, if these two things are true, my question is if this title is worth purchasing.

I know who you are. I know what you want. If you are looking for a donation to the Slappy Fund, I can tell you I don't have money.

But what I do have are a very particular set of comic books; comic books I have acquired over a very long life. Comic books that make me a nightmare for people like you.

If you praise Kitty now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you.

But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will make you read all my Kitty Pryde comics.

Ultimate X has had two things remain consistent since it started: Its had amazing creators working the book; and its sucked really really hard.

I have the first 10 TBPs and I can speak to this first hand.

However, I have heard that the latest run (Ultimate Comics X-Men; which is what this is) has been much better.

its sucked really really hard.

Why is that? ie, what specifically sucks?

It simply was not quality story-telling. What worked in Ultimate Spidey of telling those stories again only with a bit of twisting, just didn't work well withe the X-Men property; maybe they just didn't twist it right.

I doubt that matters as much as what is currently going on in the relaunch "Ultimate Comics: X-Men"; with Nick Spencer and Paco Medina on the book I have heard good things from the same people who agree that the old Ultimate X-Men book was not very good.

Kitty being on the cover of this book don't mean anything entertaining is going to happen with her in the book, and she is still a high-profile character in the 616 X-books.

I think if you merely want a Kitty fix and are sick of reading your AXM run AGAIN!, then you should simply wait for reviews and buy trades. But, please, include 616 reviews and trades Smiley

I had heard she was the central focus of the title so I had high hopes. Looks like they were unfounded. Ah well.
