I was going through my stack of To-Read-Books, and I got to wondering how others read their books. Now, I don't just mean Left To Right Then Turn The Page (unless it's a manga). I mean your monthly books, do you read each title one by one when you get them or, like me, do you leave a few issues to build up and then read four of five issues of a title at a go? I find it more enjoyable to read them that way, like a trade although still supporting the monthly issues.
What about ye? Are there some issues you have to read immediately, or do they build u like me? Or are you strictly a trade reader, like I was until last year.

It really depends on the title, if there is an ongoing or multipart storyline or event, etc.

Self contained stories (or small two/three issue stories)I usually buy and read when I can find them.  Bigger stories or crossovers I try to wait a bit and get several parts at once for one consecutive reading session.

I usually try to keep my pickings as diverse as I can without spending too much, so I have waited and grabbed a TPB here and there instead of spending on the individual issues of a large story or to try a "new" series that I haven't yet (this was how I got into the Ultimate titles since the place I used to grab comics usually did not carry those back when the Ultimate titles were still new).

I don't have a system, really. I just read when I can, which leads to a large stack ALL the time; when i find time I grab what feels right for the mood. Sometimes its a trade; sometimes a DC, Marvel or Indy; it really just all depends.

Also, I'm concurrently reading a novel called The Edge of the World; rereading the Icewind Dale Trilogy; and reading John Adams. Again, all just depends on how I feel when i find time to pick something up.

Paperback is the only way I will read a series.  The higher cost and less portability made me hate Hardcover long ago.  Except for older titles, especially with the gold leaf...those are nice,  and not meant for travel anyways.  I have gotten a digital book(Kirkman's Walking Dead novel) because of the ease of use but really hate paying full price so I mostly DL the free classics.  As for reading the titles my habits are so varied it really depends on the format, my mood and the location.

To your main question I generally wait to get the title until the series is complete.  Most writers stick to the trilogy(R.A.Salvatore) so I wait till they release their paperback "gift box".  Ever since Wheel of Time I refuse to get into a series as it runs,  not just for the hatred of hardcover but I don't have the patience to care or hold onto the details to a story for 3 plus years between titles.  Also it hurts too much when the artist kicks it and leaves the work to his others or not at all.

I only started reading Comics with the New 52, so I am still perfecting my system, but I find I read each issue as it comes out, though sometimes I don't get a chance to pick them up every week so I have a decent number to read.
I have always read a lot of the wordy type books though, so I am a pretty fast reader, and my comics don't last too long, so I usually pick up a trade or two (or a manga as my comic store has a basement full of them) every month to read when I have finished the single issues and want something lighter than a novel to read through.

Involuntary speed reading is one of my problems as well.  Reading has always been my preferred method of "escape" from my constant health issues, so without realizing it I began to read fairly fast.  I can finish an average novel in under a day if I don't force myself to slow down because I read the words quite fast, but in my head I see the scene as if it plays out in what feels like real time (like watching a movie in my head as the words paint the picture).

So a comic anymore (moreso if it is a recent comic with fewer pages of actual story) is like half an appetizer.  A single one isn't very filling, and I need many to satisfy my craving.

But on the plus side, it worked miracles in High School when I'd put off reading my assignments til the last minute.

This is true.

But when there's a really good artists on a book, I can look at it for hours.

I read any given comic when the mood suits me. But I do it when I have the time to read it slowly.

Like Alisha, I play it all out in my head like a movie, with voices and the whole bit.
