He was written fairly well actually. Taskmaster nicknamed him Butterball instead of Boulder. No amount of training could increase his strength or speed, and he just wasn't all that bright, even though he wanted to be a good recruit. They even dealt with one issue that always seemed to get forgotten, since he was invulnerable completely, he had a complete physical numbness. So much so that there was a girl, Sunstreak, who due to heat based powers can't physically come into contact with people who tries to have a relationship with him but he gets frustrated and runs off because he can't feel her touch and can't get aroused. Just an issue they never mention when dealing with Luke Cage or other similarly invulnerable people.
Would you think that Doorman has a fairly lame power? Nice as a utility character, but he walks up to a wall and people can walk through him, and thus, through that wall. Although he now apparently has taken over Deathurge's place as the new Angel of Death, so he's rocking some ski's now too.

If Doorman can only allow others to pass through him but cannot teleport to the new destination himself then I'd say his power definitely has limitations. Still, he'd be great for hostage rescue and stuff like that.
Boulder sounds interesting.

The ability to grow and shrink your fingernails. I'm not talking about super fingernails that you can slash people with. I'm talking about Meg from that episode of Family Guy style growth. The "Ouch that hurt! Is it bleeding? No, but ouch though." style of nails.
Talk about lame.

And a little gross.
It's like having the ability to expel your blood from your body as a splash-weapon...but not having the power to live with such massive blood loss.

Lameguy - "Don't make me shoot my blood at you!"
Evil dude - "Why? Is it like paralytic? Or maybe an acid that will eat through my robotic exoskeleton?"
Lameguy - "... Uh... No. It is just really gross for you and I normally pass out when I do it."

lol Exactly!
I used to joke about the villain, Nitro, who has the power to make himself explode like a bomb. I was like, "Yeah, but what if he could only do it once?? ... Better be sure!"
Could just name him Suicide.

Or you could call him Chiaotzu if you're feeling international.
