I was thinking today about various things that I've read/watched/bought/etc. since I started listening to Major Spoilers that I either hadn't heard of or hadn't given a second glance before. It got me to wondering what things others have picked up because of the show.

Most recently for me, I watched Rubber after hearing Rodrigo's recommendation of it. I had seen it on Netflix in the past, but kind of glossed over it. Then last week, I saw it as I was scrolling through movies and decided to give it a chance. I quite enjoyed it, and I suggested it to others who also enjoyed it. The concept of "No reason" was something I really enjoyed in the current Hollywood environment of "We will either explain every detail of why things are being done, even if they're obvious by context" or "We'll hand-wave everything that we don't feel like explaining as occurring because of magic/technology/that's just how it is." The movie deciding not to explain ANYTHING was a fresh idea that made for an enjoyable experience.

Other things I've looked into because of the podcast include Atomic Robo (I was a reader of 8 Bit Theater WAY back in the day but stopped reading it after a couple years, so it was fun to find another work of Clevinger's), Invincible (insert Kirman joke here),  and Phineas and Ferb (I'm an adult male who will freely admit he watched an episode or two of the show when he wants to unwind after a stressful day).

What are some things that you have gotten into because of Major Spoilers?

It's more of what Major Spoilers got me back into, but I re-started buying comics.

It was early 2009 and I was bored on the tills at work and I was searching for Marvel titles and what's been going on in the titles.  After reading the review, articles and trolling the forum for a while (Sorry about that  Undecided) I decided to get back into buying comics.  Also to catch up on the year or so I missed.  However I'm not big on the whole trades or reprints so I had to troll ebay to find them.

The other thing MajorSpoilers got me into was talking about comics.  Normally the only time friends or family ask questions or not tell me to shut-up is when a movie comes out.  So you can tell what the main conversation is at the moment (small clue it starts with an A or AA if in th UK).  I know I haven't been around as much as I used to but I still read the posts and post when I have time.

If I had the powers of Multiple Man, I would send one of the dupes to work, one to revise, one to clean my room and one to walk the dog.  While I would stay at home reading comics.

I just bought the first volume of Atomic Robo upon the amount of praise it gets here. I've not read anything 'comic like' , apart from Mouseguard since my 200AD days back in the late 80's.

It might not be quite the same, but because of Major Spoilers (or rather, one of the big guys in particular) I have all the promo Lantern rings.  I'm still giddy about that after all this time.   Cheesy

But I have checked out a few titles, tried a few online comics (not just web comics, but a few digital comics) and given a few movies and TV series a try that I otherwise might not have.

I've also avoided a few titles because of reviews that I could relate to (rather than the "OMGitssoawesometheycandonowrong" reviews on some sites).  As someone with a tiny entertainment budget, I want to be sure I'm getting my money worth of what little I get.  Just because a title has a certain writer or artist or character I like doesn't mean it will automatically be good.

They got me back into comics, D&D and by extension board and card games.  I used to DM for old 2nd and 3rd for several years but after I moved(selling my comics to do so) I never had anyone to play with.  I still don't but I have picked up several 4e books for when I finally convince them to play.  Currently working on a one off in my free time that might sway them.  That or use a copy of Small World that may slowly get them away from the techno games.

Anyways, point is I got comixology and spent a lot of time on it and the net looking at all kinds of comics and now have several trades that I follow.  Most notably from this site are Locke&Key, Walking Dead, Super Dinosaur and Atomic Robo.  I really enjoy Skullkickers as well so I am mostly into Image comics but there are a few others I won't bring up here.  Thanks to majorspoilers they have re-introduced me to the things that I had loved but stopped following many years back consolidating to movies/TV and video games.  Probably because they were really expensive, time intensive and obsession inducing but the good stuff normally is I suppose Wink

I was already into comics, D&D, and sci-fi. So it isn't so much that MS has introduced me to new hobbies or titles as much as it has given me great people with whom to share my interests.

I've met many awesome people on this forum and I basically live here (see post count). So I have been "introduced" to new friends. That rocks.  Cool

MS got me back into paper D&D in general and also sold me on the Castle Ravenloft board game specifically. Their review of the game system pushed Ravenloft from a "gonna buy sometime" to a "gotta have NOW".

Also, lot o' comics...to many to list.

I'd say this.

I honestly believe I have at least 4, maybe 5, new couches I could crash on should the need arise. And that is never a bad thing Wink

Major Spoilers has introduced and reintroduced me to a number of things. Firstly, comics. I had drifted years ago after my LCS shut, and found MS in order to keep up on what was going on in the comic world. And now, much to my wife's dismay, I buy entirely too many monthly issues. Secondly, podcasts themselves. I did not listen to podcasts, and between MS and Smodcast I got into them. Now I'm toying with the notion of doing a movie based one myself. Thirdly, Lock And Key. Best book I've read in years. Period. Finally, a bunch of other books/trades...Atomic Robo, Wolverine, Runaways, and most of the Marvel 'verse.
Thank you Major Spoilers.

The Vertigo run of Starman. It was something I was always interested in, but one of those books that seemed to always slip my mind. There was a mention of Starman in a recent episode of MS, and I wrote down Starman on a piece of paper, and checked out all the Starman trades from the library after work. I finished them all in a weekend. I was very happy to be gorged on one of my favorite takes on the superhero story.
