Fantastic!
It takes every horror movie trope we've seen a million times, uses it credibly in the plot, explains it, then turns it all upside down.

Indeed! I didn't even realize it was Friday the 13th but it fits. And, with all due respect to that classic, I think this will set the bar for intelligent horror.
Have you seen it yet? If so, what did you think?

No I haven't gone to the movies in a loooong time. I just don't have the cash for box office at this time. I generally wait till DVD and rent it...for a tenth the cost. Do what you gotta right?

I understand, definitely. I was homeless for a while. Then, after I had shelter, I was living on peanut butter sandwiches and ramen noodles for months.
Yeah, do what you gotta do. But circumstances can always change as long as you keep trying and do the right thing.
It's a good movie though. So be sure to add it to your dvd rent list.

Cabin In The woods is Awesome. It's very funny, pretty scary, and wicked clever. And while, in places, it plays a little like a season finale for Buffy or Angel, I'm quite alright with that. It contorts the usual horror tropes around, and gives them a new context, much like Tucker & Dale Vs Evil did, only to a better effect.
I cannot recommend this movie enough

I would really like to go see that movie, I mean, Joss Wheaton wrote it.

Joss Whedon (not to be confused with Will Wheaton) is an amazing writer. He could make a movie about compost piles and I'd go see it.
When I started "The Cabin in the Woods" I was rather unimpressed through the first portion. I was sort of meh, like, nothing new to see here or even trying very hard (although it had some funny moments).
But by the time it was over I realized Joss had me right where he wanted me at minute one, taking me on exactly the viewing experience he desired. I left feeling so completed I almost wish I smoked.

I got a chance to watch this last week while I was out of state to visit my family, and I absolutely loved it.
I was drawn in from the first five minutes when they introduced the protagonists and invoked every single trope related to horror movie protagonists. Just seeing that made me certain that they would be horribly subverted as the movie went on. The only nitpick I have for the whole movie is this - Who was Kevin? On the bet board, one of the options was Kevin, and I want to know who the deuce Kevin was.

Hmmm, Baader Meinhof Phenomenon! I just heard of that movie for the first time a couple days ago. It sounds interesting, and I'll definitely have to add it to my "to watch" list.

I haven't seen the movie. I just did a web search for "Kevin Horror" after you mentioned it.
I'm not sure if this is the Kevin to which tCitW refers. Looks like it could be.

Well, I'm disappointed now. I just found something that says that Kevin was just supposed to be a monster that looked like a bland human. Boring.
Slightly less boring, I found an image of the bet board -

Now that you've seen this, Gaumer, time to bump the thread.

TYVM
I purposely didn't read anything about the movie, including this thread, before seeing it so I could go in without my opinion being skewed.
It was great. I agree, it took all kinds of fantasy/horror tropes and used them very well. But it also used the B-horror movie and the aspects of them that make them B-movies and explained them in ways that turn many B-horror movies into simply another time the government heroes underground saved the Earth from unspeakable horror by killing some teenagers.
Just brilliant.
