So, in my travels for work last week, I got to catch up on movies I never got around to watching, one of which was Sucker Punch.

I honestly can't decide if I liked this movie or not. The action scenes were too long and overdone. Baby Doll bugged me with her bland expressions. The slow-fast-slow thing combined with the music video aesthetic was annoying. And it felt a lot like someone just played American McGee's Alice.

But still, it had something going for it...if I could only figure out what. I guess I like the "twist" at the end, even though it is kind of cheap. I like the wise man character. I kind of liked the world within a world within a world angle, although I think it's more straight-forward than a lot of the reviews make it sound.

I don't know. It falls into that category of movie that I think, "Interesting. And now, I'll go watch something that is not this and never watch this again."

Personally I enjoyed that flick.  I know why some didn't or were unsure of their opinions but I read into movies way to much.  I believe it's one of those films that benefits from multiple viewings and therefore open to individual interpretation.  I know a lot of people just think it is just a "fan service" movie.  While it certainly is there is more to it then just that imo.

Strangely, I didn't find it all that fan service-y. Granted, the very first fight had a lot of slow, lingering crotch shots, but it wasn't gratuitous and, after the intro and the "lobotomies aren't sexy" part, I was over the fan service aspect.

Granted, it probably also helps that Baby Doll just didn't do it for me...just not my type, I guess...

I agree that it isn't that type of movie at it's core but that is what people expected it to be.  Yes it played to the cliches but it didn't make it the sole focus.  It was a "Sucker Punch" to those that just expected a lot of fan service.  At least that is what I take from the title anyways.

I like movies that make me think and this movie did so. I don't mean I had to figure it out think but more, that is something I never concidered.

Which is, in fact, an accurate description of Vanessa Hudgens and Jamie Chung.

That is a great description of it. And as long as somebody else writes the script, Snyder could make a cool Superman. He is a very visual director (300, Sucker Punch, Legends Of The Guardians: That Cool Looking Owl Flick) which could work very well for Kal-El. Mix that with Chris Nolan producing, and a Nolan/Goyer scripts, and Man Of Steel might just rock.
