Marvel online subscription?
«

has anyone tried this? I'm curious how much access one gets with such a subscription...
For those who have no idea what I've babbling about, you can buy a subscription from Marvel ($10/month or $60/year) and get access to reading from their library as much as you want. I don't think you get the brand new issues as they come out, but I did see some from last year-so they're not all ancient history.
I'm toying with the idea since I'm less of collector of things and read more for the stories and characters and concepts etc-which would be a good fit for this subscription.
Thought I'd get the opinion of geeks like me!

Sorry, I haven't tried it. I'd like to hear from some who have though as well.

I haven't used it, but I looked into getting it a while back.
Their library isn't really geared towards me. They pepper the available list of comics with some new stuff, but some of the offerings are single issues in the middle of arcs and such. There wasn't enough offered that made me think it was a better deal than simply buying the books in trade of issues.
It seems more like a place to "taste" what is being offered in paper. Like a guy standing outside the Food Court with free samples, only Marvel's deal ain't free.
I have no idea how the books physically read on digital readers, but what they offered wasn't attractive enough for me to jump in.

hmmm...I do want to try this out...but with no ringing endorsements and fairly sparse info from the site itself (what's available, how often you can read etc) I'll have to mull this over some more. I'm fairly frugal (aka cheap) and have a low threshold for being fished in.
If anyone has any experience with this...I'd be happy to hear about it.
Thanks

I have had the Digital Comics Unlimited service for a couple of years now and I find it an excellent service. It's easy to search for the comics you want to read and the comics are coming out in digital form quicker now.
I mostly use when on holiday or on a training course. I'm stuck in my hotel room so I get out the laptop, sign into the Wifi and browse the digital comics for a couple of hours. I also use it when a story line points to an earlier event which I may have forgotten some of the details. So instead of searching for the comic I search the digital copy.
Also sometimes Marvel will bring out comics in digital format or promote it as digital only, then print it 4 months later
I would personally say if you are thinking about it and you love reading Marvel comics then you should go for it.

If I had the powers of Multiple Man, I would send one of the dupes to work, one to revise, one to clean my room and one to walk the dog. While I would stay at home reading comics.

I may love the unlimited service, but oddly I have never used the free digital codes. Seeing as I have a pile of comics at home with the codes. Maybe if I had an Ipad I would use them.
