I've been reading comics since as far back as I can remember. Initially it was the Beano and Dandy, kind of the English versions of (how i imagine) Archie Comics. Kids funny books, essentially. And I loved them, I actually still get their Christmas annuals every year.
But the first superhero book? It was a Batman book. It was my tenth birthday, the Burton/Keaton Batman movie was only a few months away...and I was beside myself with excitement (even at 10 i was a massive movie nut). I already loved the Adam West show, and I had presumably read a few of the comics, but nothing that stuck with me. Then for my birthday my uncle got me The Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told (http://connect.collectorz.com/comics/database/the-greatest-batman-stories-ever-told/1c-238714), and the last story was Son Of The Demon. There are panels of that story, particularly Talia Al Ghul in a white slip/night gown, that are burned in to my memory. That is when I vividly remember realizing that Batman was not the camp Adam West show, and that my expectations for the movie should be changed.
I have no idea where that book is now, and I've not read Son Of The Demon in about twenty years. But that book, in a manner, changed my life.

Ah yes. "Son of the Demon". Good stuff there.

My first comic was Captain America & The Falcon. I'd have to look up the issue number.

It was from the '70's. Cap had gone into an alternate dimension to rescue Falcon, who did not remember him. Jack Kirby did the art.

I was impressed by Captain America because while everyone else was quick to make assumptions and jump to violence, he tried to resolve things peacefully to the benefit of all involved. Thus was I introduced to both comics and my heroic role model.

I can't recall the issue, but the first book I remember reading was an old Marvel comic "What The-?" featuring Forbush Man and I think Peter Porker, Spider-Ham that my older brother tossed to me in the late 80's.

I honestly can't remember WHY that one sticks out, but it's the earliest one I remember reading even though my brother used to read comics to me when I was going through chemo when I was 4.

The first Captain America book I read was actually his Civil War tie-in. I've always been a DC guy, so it's really only in the later years that I've read Marvel stuff, and even at that it's quite limited.

I was a fan of Captain America before everyone knew about him from his movies and before he was cool.  Smiley

My aunt used to get my sister and I Archi & Richie Rich digests all of the time.  My first real comic book was Master of Kung Fu #85 from 1980.

Detective Comics #521  It had Green Arrow on the cover.

Oddly though,  I am not a loyal Batman reader.  I read Superman comics on a regular basis from Pre Crisis then  Post Crisis & I'm giving new 52 Superman a chance.

The first book I remember reading was Warlock Volume 2 #3. Someone my parents worked with had drawn me a picture of the In-Betweener, and as a child, I found that image and character idea to be fascinating. A few months later, I'm with my parents at a Star Trek convention (they started me early, and I was in costume - Redshirt with a bullseye painted on my back), and I see the cover (http://marvel.wikia.com/Warlock_Vol_2_3) as we pass a booth selling comic books. Instantly recognizing the face of the In-Betweener, I of course beg my parents to buy it for me.

From there, I went on to snag other books involving Adam Warlock and Thanos. They remain two of my favorite comic book characters to this day.

I always kind of liked the look of the In-Betweener when I was a kid. I dunno why. I guess just the simple contrast.

If I'd grown up in the 90's he would have been forced to wear belts with many pouches and carry giant guns.

I remember my first comic was an X-men comic and it was "Enter the Juggernaunt".  It was a comic version of the cartoon or the cartoon was the copy.  For those who haven't seen it, you see Juggunaunt breaking into a bank, followed by Wolverine and then a fight with the X-Men.  This will explain my love for all things Marvel

This comic was thrown out and it was a couple of years later that I started collecting comics for real.  It was only 1 a month, but my brother was collecting them too so it was 2 a month if you think about it.  I collected British reprints of Spiderman and I can still remember the storyline.  Kaine had just killed Dr.OCK (At least that death was quick compared to what he's going through now.) and a few of Spideys rouges were teaming up to battle him.  At the same time my brother was buying Marvel Heroes Reborn.  The strange part was the Onslaught Saga wasn't reprinted for a couple of years after this title.

My brother stopped reading comics so I took his collection (Didn't even have to pay him as he thought they were childish and wanted them out.) However I am still going strong.  Maybe even slightly over the top.  Is it wrong to get the same comic with 3 different covers (AVX#1 starndard, X-men Team and Avengers Team, also the same for AVX#2)

If I had the powers of Multiple Man, I would send one of the dupes to work, one to revise, one to clean my room and one to walk the dog.  While I would stay at home reading comics.

Depends on what you mean by comic...

I remember reading my grandmother's hardback Disney books which featured a pretty cool Zorro story when I was very young...  The first comic I remember buying was probably Shogun Warriors #1, while the first comic I remember WANTING was G.I. Joe #1.  I know I read my cousin's Star Wars, Human Fly and such (not sure if this was before or after Shogun, though) and he had a copy of the Legion of Super-Heroes treasury that I eventually bought from him and still own til this day.

I don't remember the exact issue but it was a Detective Comics from the late 80s/early 90s featuring The Ventriloquist.

There were always Peanuts, Beetle Bailey, Wizard of Id, and Hi and Lois Paperbacks at my house. I remember reading those when I was very young.  The first traditional 'comic book' I remember reading was Incredible Hulk #272 which featured appearances by Sasquatch and the Wendigo.
