Since I'm now in a dry spell for podcast listening until the new season of Critical Hit starts, I've been looking around iTunes for any other actual play podcasts and I was semi-interested in this one...

After listening to the first one, I'm not so sure; has anyone else listened to it? Does it get any better later on? At least in audio quality?

Isn't that the one set in Eberron or something?  If you're talking about the one I think you are, I couldn't even make it through the first episode.  I appreciate the effort, but I just couldn't understand anything they were saying.  One of the great things about Critical Hit is the audio quality, and these guys just didn't have it.

Unless I've got my podcast name wrong.  In which case, disregard everything I just said lol

No, it's set in Stormhaven, a pre-packaged campaign from the glory days of AD&D. But yeah, audio quality is a big reason Critical Hit is as good as it is, as addressed by Stephen on several occasions.

It's not that the players themselves are bad at it, but the echo and dogs barking in the back really detract from the story, which actually seems interesting by all accounts.

I couldn't get on with it and stopped after my second listen.
Its about the audio quality for me too, I dont want to hear someone's microwave beeping overriding what's being said at the table.
Some of the rpgmp3 podcasts are quite good, especially the Whartson Hall gamers ones.

It's a great podcast and the audio quality does get better.  It's one of my must listen to shows.

I don't know why you wouldn't listen to Critical Hit during the off-season... there's some pretty cool stuff coming up, that you're going to miss out on...

Oh I will, I'm just saying that I'm in a dry spell week by week, so I'm relistening for about the 7th time through the entire Critical Hit story. I'm at the point where Orem keeps curising out Ma in the battle for the Staticite, lol.

I was just wondering if Icosahedrophilia was worth listening to while I wait for the next release of Critical Hit is all... Embarrassed

If you are looking for something else to fill up your time and you have not heard the Penny Arcade podcasts I would suggest them. They are decent, specially when Mr. Wheaton joins in..I would skip the Dark Sun part..Horribly DMed

You know Stephen, the kids are going to go out and listen to other podcasts besides ours, we just have to be open and informative about it and make sure they wear protection.

As a note most actual play podcasts don't have the audio expertise that the crit hit guys do, a lot get better over time but critical hit is certainly a stand out for audio quality.

Tondi speaks the truth!  I've tried so very hard to get into other actual play podcasts and almost every time I end up unsubscribing in disgust.  People talking over each other all the time, bad audio, background noise... yech.

I had some big renovations that involved long days of tedious work where I had nothing to do but listen to stuff.  I gained a tolerance to audio quality and pushed through to focus on the stories.  There's some good stuff out there you just have to have a high bad audio tolerance.
