General FF discussion thread here, but the news of a Fantastic Four relaunch really got me to put this up.

I've been a Hickman fan for a long time and when he took the reins of the Fantastic Four book when he joined Marvel I was very stoked. His sci-fi storytelling and his pacing made prefect sense for the book and his arc that lead to the end of the Four and the start of the FF has been a highlight of comics for me in the past year or so.

It DID involve a death, which never has the pull it once did in comics, but everything just made sense and worked and was fun and, somewhat, poignant. It felt like it really meant something. In books that do swinging changes quarter to quarter and kill and resurrect characters like so many 3.5 D&D Animal Companions, those in the FF books felt more like honey, sweet, refreshing and sticky (see what I did there) to the vinegar in other books.

So is Marvel really going to ruin this for me? Bringing back a Fantastic Four title, The Human Torch, or both makes the whole thing, when boiled down, a freaking excuse to get Spider-Man on the team Sad

The stories will still be good in the context of themselves and them alone, but given the time-frame of the whole thing it forces me to get over my Hickman love because Marvel is just getting in the way (c blocking Marvel), and I will drop FF just to THAT prick.

Or, and I sincerely hope, that Fantastic Four #600 is nothing more than the "normal" excuse of taking advantage of an issue with a 0 in the number. That's still crappy, but I can excuse it if the one-shot story works to accompany the FF title.

I just have too many really good options from too many publishers to put up with it.

Fantastic Four #600 has launched and as you feared Johny is back.  the issue was a collection of stories from the attack by the Kree and what Johny has been upto since being trapped in the negative zone.  It also had a Galactus story where Galactus told Reed to call him whan the time comes and Earth is in peril.  Most people might scratch their head in wonder.  Or you would if you didn't read the first story arc in Mighty Thor. Basically Galactus wants the wants the Galactus seed hidden in the world tree and if Earth dies the Galactus seed will be lost somewhere in time where Galactus can not find it.

So now we have FF #12 and Fantastic Four #601 coming out.  So after all the hype and build up of the death of the Fantastic Four, here we are reading a Fantastic Four comic with the human torch in the pages.  I'm not sure but I think this is a record even for Marvel.  The last charcter that died for real is Dr Voodoo and I wouldn't be surprised if he returns when Marvel start the defenders story arc about Agamoto.

So in summary Johny's back, Galactus wants to save the Earth and Franklin has his mini-universe where he pretends to be a superhero.

If I had the powers of Multiple Man, I would send one of the dupes to work, one to revise, one to clean my room and one to walk the dog.  While I would stay at home reading comics.
