What's the story line for his return?

I'm curious about that myself.

The Storyline is a match between him and Cena at WM. Very much like Rock vs. Hogan at mania. He came back to survivor Series to build the feud between him and Cena, in that way to build more hype for the brawl.

Cena is boring.

He's booked that way, he actually can wrestle a good match. No Way out 2009 against Umaga.

I don't think he has the natural charisma of The Rock and some of the greats. But he fills seats and people like him. So I guess he's doing his job.

I also agree with that, but in my opinion there is no big break out star in the WWE. The Rock, Austin, and others like them are hard to come by. Cena, Orton, and CM Punk are not and never will be on that level.

Exactly. And that is a large part of why I quit watching.

The WWE is okay for what it is but it's not what it was.

Personally, I don't think it's all the wrestlers faults.  Writing and limitations imposed because of past events (Owen Hart's death plunge being one of many, many unfortunate events that led to changes) seem to have altered WWE from what it used to be into a slightly...   I dunno, tamer? version of what it once was.

At least, that's how I've seen it.  There is still plenty of great talent giving their all every time they walk into the ring (although I will admit that some simply are lacking anything more than being big and able to take a few smacks), and there have been a few storylines that have been interesting enough that I'll notice from a distance (like someone in an MMO chat starts talking about it while we wait for a group to gather).  But there is just something lacking that isn't entirely the fault of most of the wrestlers themselves.

I don't think writing has changed all that much. Maybe the superstars are a bit more leashed than they would have been previously...but IDK.

But the action has been nerfed a ton, and it should be.

Two wrestlers I do think have a lot of talent and a great future if handled correctly are John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler. But I hear Morrison's contract isn't going to be renewed.

According to the dirt sheets Vince McMahon doesn't like him or respect him. Plus he is in the dog house from the last wrestlemania for disrespecting Trish Stratus (Morrison that is).

Morrison is a little weak on the mic but his athletic skill is phenomenal. He could be the Shawn Michaels of this generation, just as I see Ziggler as the new Mr. Perfect.

Punk and Ziggler could/should lead the company for years to come. Once Cena goes heel, which hopefully will happen when this whole Cena/Rock thing comes to a head at 'Mania 28. Miz has a future, if they don't mess him up entirely.
And it's the They that is the problem. Creative. The wrestles are doing there best with what they're given. But the product is far from the heights of the late 90's-early 00's.
For what it's worth, Survivor Series was a bit of a dud. The Punk/Del Rio match was pretty awesome. Henry/Big Show match was, as they have been in the past, better than expected. However the Rock-Cena Vs Miz/Truth tag match was something of a disappointment. Not a bad match necessarily, but the ending was entirely too predictable.

I see a pattern

I see where you're going with that but, honestly, I think the 90's was a better era than the 80's.

I grew up watching Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, the Road Warriors, and Randy Savage, yeah. I will always remember the whole Macho Man/Hogan saga that led through Wrestlemania III-V.

But I think the era of Shawn Michaels, Degeneration X, the Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and the others provided more athleticism and more pure fun.

Athleticism? I'm not sure considering half of the folks you named were a huge part of the 80s Smiley Not including Ricky Steamboat, Ultimate Warrior, Tatanka, Bret Hart, and I;m sure I could go on if I gave it some thought.

And I'm not sure it gets much more fun than guys like Jim Dugan, George Steel, and Jake Roberts. Maybe a different era of fun but still much more fun even in the 80s as this era is for this era.

I think the big swing came when they got a bunch of writers and tried to make it more than it should have been. The 80s were filled with loose plots thrown together and created by the mad ramblings of a cocaine driven Randy Savage, for example. These kids ain't got the chops like them old guys had Smiley

But its all 6 of 1 half a dozen of another. In order for wrestling to be as popular as its been for as long as its been it has to keep changing to keep pace with the pulse of its target audience. Its easy for a fans to feel many different things about something that changes so much.
