As well as being a comic fan, and a massive movie fan, I really like wrestling. Professional wresling. The "fake" "sports entertainment" wrestling. While I know I am not alone in this, I wonder if there are any on the MSForum who share my opinion? Anyone interested in what will happen at Hell In A Cell tonight?
And has anyone ever read the WWF Undertaker comics? They were really daft, poorly written, and adaquetly drawn, yet still somehow kinda fun Smiley

I used to watch pro-wrestling all the time. I went to several events and enjoyed it.

By the late 90's I found myself growing a bit tired of it. I didn't think the story lines were as good nor the performers as interesting.

I enjoyed everything through the first incarnation of Degeneration-X. I was a fan of wrestlers like Shawn Michaels and even found Stone Cold Steve Austin entertaining sometimes.

But the likes of Mark Henry and Sheamus and the current ilk have left me unenthusiastic.

Pro wrestling, WWE included, is not fake. You cannot fake falling 15 feet from a ladder or the top of a room sized cage.

It is scripted. If this shit was real I wouldn't want anyone watching it including my 10 year old, who is the biggest wrestling fan I have ever known.

I fell out of regular watching back in DX's heyday but have kept up as much as I can, which is a bunch with my kid loving it so much.

Years ago I won tickets to Judgement Day, a pay-per-view event in Nashville. Angle got his hair cut, Jericho in the cell vs. HHH, Brock Lesnar in person (because you can't really believe a guy is that big until you see him in person) and, the best ever, Hulk Hogan vs. Undertaker. I felt like I was 12 again!

So, yea, wrestling is very cool!

Believe me, i know it's not fake. That's why i had it in "" quotation thingys. I was at 'Mania in Orlano a few years back, a long trip from Dublin.

I've been a fan since Attitude era, and got REALLY in to it when Jericho debuted on Raw.

The current angles and stars aren't a patch on the likes of Austin and Rock back in the day, but I think Punk is pretty darn cool. And some of the under card guys, like Ziggler and Sheamus, have potential.

Dolph Ziggler has potential and I agree C.M. Punk is cool. They need much better writing though.

I really don't think the "writing" in WWE is the issue. They "write" storylines, but the Superstars do all their own banter.

If there's a problem with the strorylines its probably because its written for teenagers and we're old men Smiley

CM Punks's current storyline is pretty good. Sure, we've seen it all before with Austin, which is what i meant by its being written for teenagers.

Some of the 'writing' is good at the moment. I know Mark Henry was mentioned in a negative light earlier, but what they're doing with him at the moment is actually pretty cool. Problem is that they're hiring soap writers, not wresting writers.
Hiring some comic writers could be cool. Imagine Grant Morrison writing for Punk. Or Geoff Johns. Never gonns happen, but it'd be cool Smiley

I'm not sure it would. I don't think it translates the same. WWE has used soap writers forever and they remain the number 1 brand in the sport. Other "leagues" have tried going with the wrestling writer and it didn't pay off.

Even with all the bashing they seem to take for "not doing it right", WWE stays on top, and attracts the best talent. Its the same thing with Marvel comics. Everyone knows how to do it "better", especially when its the top dog.

I used to be a pretty big wrestling fan, but I got sorta burnt out around 2003 - 2004 and haven't really paid much attention since.  But before that, I was such a huge fan that I went to almost every local event (the WCW and WWF/WWE shows at the time around here were usually not televised ones, but still had the big names showing up).

And while I'm not the huge fan I used to be, I still want one of those replicas of the champion belts (not the toys, but the actual nearly exact replicas), preferably a "classic" design like WCW or the "Stone Cold" Steve Austin belt (I have the toy of that one from a WWE event I went to).

Small world I was there too.. Awesome last match for Flair...

I watch every once in awhile, as some things are a little better than others. I get the games every year, and the guys I like right now goes as follows: CM Punk, The Miz, (currently Mark Henry), Daniel Bryan.

I care.

I haven't been watching wrestling for a long time. I haven't found most of the new personas or story lines very interesting.

But I fondly remember The Rock. I remember him from his early Rocky Maivia days, all the way through the Nation of Domination (great times there) and beyond.

I am excited The Rock is back.

What's the story line for his return? Who's he wrestling and why?

I'm curious about that myself.
