What if the heads at Marvel & DC Comics traded their characters
Henry "Hank" Pym & Raymond "Ray" Palmer to be in each of their
respective comic book imprints/universes in 1986 after the COIE
maxi-series?

What would happen if Marvel retconned Palmer as a Marvel comic
with no memory of his original universe (and vice versa with Pym)?

How much would things change for and with Palmer
& Pym's allies, enemies and whatnot if this happened?

How different do you think Hank & Ray's retelled origins will be
if The Big Two had made miniseries that presented them
and their relationships with each others' characters?

How will this trade off effect comicdom, comic companies and anything else?

Finally, how would comic fans and non-comic fans feel towards the swap up?

Note: Al Pratt will only get his name and costume retroactively changed after COIE in this.

There were rumors back when there was the "Marvel vs DC" event that a swap would actually happen, with at least one character from each company being swapped, although not those characters specifically.  The reactions were as varied among comic fans as with anything.  In the comic shop I used to frequent, two very close friends actually almost came to physical blows over the disagreement of it being a good or bad idea (One thought it was a great idea, one thought it would be the worst gimmick since multiple variant covers flooding the market).

I'd personally be rather intrigued at such a swap if the right writers handle it and the storyline doesn't come across as a gimmicky "imaginary tale".
