What fictional digital worlds have you seen?
The Ravirn series by Kelly Mcculough had a way gods and sentient machines could jack their souls into a multiversal network
Megaman Battle Network had its Cyberspace
Reboot takes place in Mainframe computers.
Digimon's Digital World
Pokemon have a digital world that can be accessed primarily by Porygon.
You cannot forget about TRON.
Captain N (and its webcomic knockoff Captain SNES
http://www.captainsnes.com/
) had Videoland.
The Webcomic Kidd Radd had its own digital world. Archive:
http://kidradd.niftihalostudios.com/
The Xanth novels by Piers Anthony had their own digital world. They called it Xanth Node if I remember right.
Have you come across any others?

Digimon's Digital World
If you want to be technical, there are actually several incarnations of the Digital World from Digimon. The original series version (which was also in series two); the version from "Digimon Tamers" (season 3 in the US) that was created by an evolved tamogatchi-like A.I. (there were different rules to that world from the previous version, such as humans had no actual need to eat while there); the version from "Digimon Savers" (Data Squad in US) which was similar to the original series version but also a little different; and pretty much every separate incarnation (from toons, manga, games, etc) had it's own version of the Digital World that had it's own rules and structure that made them unique.
There was also a novel series I started to read in the late 90's called
Otherland
which featured a sort of virtual reality internet. While the majority of people would be able to go in or out and would be required to be hooked up to machines to stay in the virtual reality, some people were "disconnected" from their bodies while in the VR world.

Yeah, I have seen them all and read them all. I just group them under the same digital world, for simplicity sake.

The world of dothacksign. If you've never experienced this game/anime I would suggest picking it up. One of the best Rpg stories of its time. I love this game more than any final fantasy other than Final Fantasy Tactics.

Damn it, I forgot .HackSign...it was one of the things that inspired me to make this topic. I own all of the games, and read/seen the anime/manga...
In Secret of Evermore, the boy and his dog are transported into this world created by an eccentric inventor.
In the Webcomic MysticRevolution (
http://www.mysticrev.com/
), it is a VR mmo.

I remembered when I was younger and Power Rangers was just starting out Saban made a spin-off series called VR Troopers that looks like it lasted 2 seasons. Where in typical power ranger's fashion some teenagers found bad guys in a virtual world and would do battle there (powered by japanese footage) to save their world. I had to look it up on wikipedia to remember what it was about, but there is a digital world for you.

I never really considered that a "Virtual Reality" in anything but name only, personally. It looked like they really wanted to use the term "Virtual Reality" but then got lazy halfway through the pilot episode and used "Virtual Reality" and "Alternate Dimension" interchangeably. They
did
train for a few episodes in a sort of VR "Danger Room" sort of thing, and the mentor was an A.I., those being the two closest things to virtual reality that I got from the show.
Of course I'm a bit of a bitter hypocrite, I was willing to overlook the shoddy writing of MMPR but I couldn't forgive it in VR Troopers or Masked Rider.

I jusr reread through Digimon Adventures. In Issue 28, there is canon that proves there are parallel digital worlds. As the second anime world crosses over with the manga world. Which is odd, since Taichi exists in both worlds, and the Daisuke recognizes him as the younger taichi (and calls him fake Taichi). Freaky.
Then later, the third digital world crosses over with the manga in #45. Thus confirmed that there are 3 digital worlds and 3 human worlds. Oh wait, they went into a 4th digital world.

There is also a storyline in
one of the Japanese games
suggesting that there are multiple digital worlds. Although not exactly canon, it's still pretty interesting to consider.

Happened on "Gargoyles" and a host of other cartoons in the 90's when it was sci-fi.
