Does anyone know anything about this new series that Millar is doing?

I saw the checklist on the Major Spoilers front page, but I haven't heard anything else about it.

if I get a chance to read #1 I'll review it for the next podcast. Right now it kind of looks like Marvel heroes spilling out onto the real world... Back when Duran Duran was hot.

Check that.  I just heard it yesterday, and I think I will wait for the trade before I get it.

I really enjoy your reviews on the podcast.

My first forum post! Yay!

Anyways...just picked up the first 4 issues of this series yesterday, and thought, hmm, I recognise that artwork. Then it struck me that I'd seen it before in Zombieworld:Winters Dregs a few years ago. Whatever happened to that series of zombie books, anyway...

Back to 1985 (when I was 19!), and I got to say that this series is shaping up nicely. Not really read much of Millar's work before, so I went into this purely on the concept (Marvel villains appearing in the real world of 1985? What's not to like!). Got to say I'm liking this, and can't wait for issue 5.

One further thing to add...best use of the Melter since he had that gun back in the 60's.

Just picked up issue 5 of this series...and it continues to rattle along towards...what? That's the thing I like about this series...it's proving to have a few surprising twists and turns along the way. Even for a jaded old fanboy like myself (at 42), I think I'm going to be surprised at how this series concludes in issue 6.

It's a bit difficult trying to review this without giving anything away...but I stand by what I said about the Melter in the post above! Issue 5 also has a great turn from the Trapster...which I won't reveal, of course! Suffice to say it made me chuckle...

i like this book for one reason: the Marvel villains have balls in the 1985 universe.

they are some really nasty SOBs

and its fun to see that and imagine that, "thats how it would really be if the Marvel U were for real"

i aint sure where its going either. a lot has happened and a lot needs to be fixed before the last issue

but

and i dont think this is a spoiler

i think kids dad is the key. maybe he's the Sentry Smiley

Gaumer

You're not wrong about the twisted stuff the villains have been getting up to in this series...good thing they don't act like that in the regular Marvel Universe, or all the books would be R-rated!

One thing that's intrigued me, though, is why is the book set during 1985? Why that year in particular? Be interested to hear some thoughts from others out there about this...

I'm pretty sure it just happens to be when the writer was first getting into comic books.

yeah, I think Millar just liked that year in his life for some reason.

Crisis on Inf. Earths came out in 1985 and Watchmen is set in 1985

prolly coincidence tho

Still trying to get my head around the ending of this series...think I'll have to re-read some old Thor comics to make sense of this!

Anyone else out there able to enlighten me as to what the Don Heck that ending was all about?  Huh

i think the main character (that kid) had a friend who, although mildly retarded, had the power to control minds. this kid got pissed about his comic books going missing and brought the baddies of the Marvel U to the real world.

thats what i got from it.

maybe kids dad had a little more to do with it but i think he was just an unemployed comic geek

but it got really weird. i may be totally wring on what i read.

someone back me up or shoot me down Smiley
