Not that I know of. I haven't seen very many at the 3.99 price, although Marvel DOES spit out a tone of books every month.

The 5.99 was for a "giant-sized" book (I don't know how many pages exactly) and it then went down to 4.99, which is a good thing, but Marvel getting hate from all directions from folks who claim to not even read it anyways was bound to happen, again, in this case with the price being such a big deal.

Again, I don't know exact page counts, but I see DC with bigger books on the shelf from time to time with a higher price.

More of the same IMHO

Really, Marvel?

I can't stand it when there's an event that forces you to read the tie-ins to get the main title. Blackest Night did it with the Rainbow Warriors doing the actual team-up in the GL Corp book, and it seems Fear Itself has done it. I've read each and every book in Fear Itself at least twice and in Book 6 I had not a freaking clue WTF was going on with the individual characters highlighted to a point that actually made me give a damn about it.

An event should not be simply an advertisement for the tie-ins for that event.

I'm specifically bashing Fear Itself. Other events did not do what this book has done to the extent that this book has done it IMHO. Events can be and are fun and exciting reading that allows for readers and creators alike to broaden horizons in new and different ways. But this is ridiculous.

I totally agree with you Gaumer about having to read the tie-ins for the main story.  However whats worse having to read a tie-in to get the full story or buying a tie-in that has nothing to do with the main story what so ever.

Best example of this is "AVENGERS DISASSEMBLED" where the banner was put on quite a few titles even though the only part of the story that had anything to with the event was there were no Avengers.  In Fantastic four the mayor was forced to call on the F4 cause they were the only people left, hence the disassembled banner.

Also Marvel does have history in spreading events over multiple titles.  I have the complete series of Ghost rider Vol 2 and Ghost Rider Blaze, yet there are big gaps due to the fact you also need Spirits of Vengance and in some cases titles like Blade and Morrbius. The most recent case I can remember is the Second coming saga.  Where you had to buy most of the X-books.

Back to Fear Itself.  The end of New Avengers was a bit of a funny one.  Fear Itself was over but nothing was said how.  It's one of those endings which isn't an ending, also DD is now an Avenger.  I think the only loner charcter who hasn't joined a team is the Punisher.

Well not long now until it's all over then it's onto the next big event and even more one-shots and tie-in's.

If I had the powers of Multiple Man, I would send one of the dupes to work, one to revise, one to clean my room and one to walk the dog.  While I would stay at home reading comics.

I agree with Gaumer, the event books should stand alone and tell a story without a need for the tie-ins to develop what is happening to the characters featured in the main books.  Spider Island is doing a great job of it.  ASM is completely self-contained and the tie-ins are just showing you the stuff on the peripherals that you don't need to know, but still add something to your understanding of the events taking place in the main book.
