So the Event started yesterday, and I picked up book one as well as Homefront.

Book one goes through and basically sets things up as Sin gets one of the Hammers, and lets loose an elder norse god? I am guessing... While this is going on, a Riot breaks out in Oklahoma where the Asgaurd gods live. (Due back to J Micheal Strizinsky way back when) Well Odin feels something is different that something woke up so he says screw this we're going home. Thor says no we will not abandon the humans, Odin slaps him around and off to Asguard they go.

It does what a number one should, by building intrigue and making me want to read further.

Now the interesting book to me while the main book was good, is this homefront book. Which is fear itself event taking place in some of the other titles such as Avengers academy. So what this does is show you the parts that matter in some of the other book as it relates to the trade. This is why I read events.

After reading 7 pages, I must now read Avengers Academy. They did this spotlight in Homefront on Speedball. How people are still angry at them, and how he is trying to make up for that fact. Using a lot of Civil War connections as well as Dark Reign. I dont want to spoil it, but it was an emotionally moving piece.

I thought the lead up book by Brubaker that covered Sin (I refuse to call her the Red Skull in the same way I refuse to call Hank Pym The Wasp or call Siryn Banshee as she's requested, but I digress) and Zemo doing their thing was terrible. So much in fact that I almost skipped the whole damn thing.

But the first issue got some good reviews and, more importantly, the guy at my LCS told me it was good, so I dove in. It was great! I loved the opening scene with the riot in NYC, presumably over the whole mosque thing but, and to better effect I'd think, they didn't get specific. It set the overall mood of the people in the Marvel U and I hope they keep up with that. Not sure why Steve and Sharon are just hanging out, but I'm sure it was more a device than anything having to do with plot or making sense in a realistic way. The Odin/Thor shit was awesome, too. How badass must this new hombre be if Odin is running away? Sort of WWE in a way, but it still worked for me. I still hate Tony Stark. He just speaks about himself like he's the greatest things since sliced bologna (I'm pondering going gluten-free) and I just can't stand his attitude, but at least he's consistent Smiley

I didn't get any of the other tie-ins and do not plan to. I just don't have the duckets to jump on anything new and do not want to risk liking something so much. Don't want the drama Smiley But I've been assured by Marvel editorial that all I need is to read the main book to get the story...I'm not holding my breath, but I'm hopeful Wink

Yes see that makes more sense, that it was a mosque. That makes the story better, I was a little confused but glad they didn't spell it out. Odin was a bad ass, though the guy Sin let loose looks a lot like Odin. Tony always loves a press conference doesn't he?

I made a joke with my comic seller when the prelude was launched, about how I would fear for the contents of my wallet due to the Fear Itself comic event.  So if this list is accurate my wallet might well take a bit of a pounding.  I'll still buy them all as I am a "completeatist" (or something simular)  If I start buying a comic, I will not stop no matter how bad the artwork or story is. Hence why my list keeps growing every couple of months.

If I had the powers of Multiple Man, I would send one of the dupes to work, one to revise, one to clean my room and one to walk the dog.  While I would stay at home reading comics.

Nan, not really.

I'm in more danager of my family going "You spent how much!!!" or "How many did you buy this week?".

I E-mailed off my comic list today, except for the extra covers and non-marvel related issues, I might as well have sent them a link to Marvels comics sale page  Grin

I started reading the story arc last night and so far I can't really say anything bad about it.

I'm really happy Alpha Flight is comming back!

"YOU GET A HAMMER! YOU GET A HAMMER!! YOU ALL GET A HAMMER!!!

Not really. Just thought we'd revisit the event again.

IDK...it seems like its being bogged down in itself. Like it wants to fly off and give us an awesome, well-paced story, but it needs to slow down to keep up with the tie-ins. I felt this a bit with Secret Invasion (the Invasion strong enough for him but PH balanced for you) with all the time spent in the Savage Land but I'm feeling it more in FI. Not reading ANY of the tie-ins, however, so I can't tell for sure, but I'm enjoying Schism and the AoA thing in X-Force more.

I have not been reading this because of the Tie-ins, but I have found that most Stories like this tend to run into that rut.  Blackest Night, Zero Hour, Secret Invasion, and most others run into this same problem.  One of the reasons I have laid off of Marvel for a little while with the exception of a few titles.
The padding anymore is ridiculous.  Secret Wars I & II as well as Crisis didn't have the padding issues I see today.  This padding to pass it around the Universe and make more money makes a weaker story in my opinion.

Oh I totally agree with you, Slappy.

If they put their efforts into the main line of the over-arcing event and then had creators write stories off of that event AND keep pace with that event (that's a big part of it) I think they would sell more tie-ins (which is their goal) and not alienate as many readers from even starting the event in the first place, as you've exampled.

I've heard the next Marvel events is going to be an Infinity Gauntlet deally!?!? That does not help their cause Smiley

That is how they used to do it.  Read Crisis and you will see that the main story is in the book but that there are a bunch of tie-ins that do not have to be read to follow the main story.  Then even if you read the side story tie-ins, you do not always need to read the main book.

I agree it feels like we're plodding along, and I want to love this. I love events and really this is giving me event fatigue. ASM Spider Island is shaping nicely however.

Did Marvel books all go to 4.99 and I didn't realize it? Why on the website is this the major comment? Blah Blah I'm not paying 5 dollars? Extra sized/Giant sized yeah I've seen some 4.99, but other than that I haven't seen many over 3.99
