I've been reading the new Deceived novel set in the Old Republic era of Star Wars. Several moments in the book and other SW books as well. (read most of them) Have a Jedi tempted and falling to the Dark Side of the Force. Now this is nothing new to the SWU but its gottin to the point at it is becoming a tired cliche for me. Just think in the old republic era the jedi are at a high in their power. There are thousands of Jedi at this point. All of them raised in the Order, it's all they know. Keeping in mind that young Jedi are trained to resist the allure of the Dark Side; To live for others and not yourself. To stand as arbetters of justice for the republic. The fall of a Jedi to the Dark Side should be a very rare and horrible soul crushing moment. To someone you view a comrand and "brother" throw away everything they have stood for till then. Most authors however don't treat it with the gravity I would think it deserves. Any thought my fellow Spoilerites?

I don't mind the fall to the Dark Side when it's actually well written, but I much more prefer the slower descent where the character might not even realize they are going "Dark" over a "Whoops, someone killed someone I love, better become evil!" quick change.

I also like the whole "grey area" approach as well, when someone may not be good but not really evil either (like some of the non-Jedi Force Sensetives like the Witches of Dathomir or other similar groups).  When I did RP in SWG back in the old days, my character despised Jedi despite being a Force Sensetive daughter of a Witch of Dathomir (although unlike a lot of people, it wasn't public in-character knowledge and I wasn't Jedi class).  She wasn't dark or light exclusively, she was just a teenager trying to live in a crazy galaxy in the middle of a war.  I was surprised at how well liked my character was because I was only trying to play the kind of depth I wished I'd see in the novels while a lot (not all) of others just went with cookie-cutter Dark and Light characters.

Some of the so-called Sith in the new "Fate of the Jedi" series also intrigue me because they don't seem to be like the Sith we've seen before.  Some seem to only be going through the motions rather than actually being a "Dark" character.
