Thanks guys for sharing. Makes me feel better.

I guess the main reason I like "No Ordinary Family" & "The Cape" is because they are superhero shows. I think the cliche of it appeals to me. I also like the Japanese super hero stuff (Ultraman, Kamen Rider, ...) so I guess I'm more forgiving.  Oddly enough, I can't stand Power Rangers Samurai even though I love the original Japanese version of the show (Shinkenger).

I also like Cecilia Reyes and the rest of the X-men added in the '90.  Actually, there are very few characters I hate.
That's why we are here to hear each other out and be civil about all of it.

Glad to know of someone who likes Cecilia and the rest besides me and Rodrigo.

I keep trying to like No Ordinary Family (as I mentioned). I despised The Cape.

But there were some who liked the latter show. I remember Rodrigo liked it.

So there you go, Rodrigo likes The Cape and Cecilia Reyes. You can form your own support group.  :-)

There's nothing wrong either way whether you like something or not. As long as you are acting morally and are not damaging yourself or someone else, you should indulge yourself however you see fit.

I've wondered this lately. Am I really the only one who likes this stuff? Well, I obviously can't be because they don't make stuff just for me, even as much as I like to think they do, or others make me think I do Smiley

"Acting morally" is relative, though Smiley Damaging yourself is your own right, even though others may not like it.  But I agree that as long as you are not not damaging another, go for it.

Second paragraph = Separate topic

First Paragraph: Yes. You are the only one who likes that stuff. ... I don't even know what stuff we're talking about but it's only you.  Tongue

I liked Mercy Reef, or whatever the Aquaman pilot was.  I thought there was potential there.  Now I don't want to watch a ton of a show taking place underwater, but it could have been alright.  The missing people showing up looking exactly like they did 80 years before had a ring to it similar to the 4400.

I really don't understand Blade Runner.  I get that it's some kind of ground breaking Sci-Fi movie, and when I rented it expecting to have my brains blown out, I finished the movie without a clue as to what had just happened.  And not in the way I was puzzling over Donnie Darko hours after it had ended.  I still don't know what in the hell Blade Runner (the movie) was about.

I'm a man, and one of my favorite movies is Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.  I loved it as a kid, and I've probably seen it 50-75 times.  I like the music.  I also loved the tv series Party of Five, Ally McBeal, Freaks and Geeks, My So Called Life, Tru Calling (Oh Eliza Dushku, you're so pretty).  Anyway, I say this because some of those shows aren't really aimed at guys and others obviously got cancelled pretty quickly but I loved them all the same.  Besides Party of Five had me fall in love with three girls at once, Neve Campbell, Lacey Chabert and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

One of my favorite super hero teams is the Great Lakes Avengers.  I just think they're genius, well not them exactly, but the way they're written.
I've also had to pull myself back from the side that likes to tear down others tastes about stuff that I really know nothing about.  In high school Harry Potter had just come out and I used to rip on other upperclassmen that were reading Harry Potter because it's such a kids book.  I held that stance until the summer after my freshman year in college when I saw the Sorcerer's Stone on DVD and watched it twice in a row.  I own all the books and movies right now and I'm still really sad that the books are done and it's all over. (I just got the books on my Kindle and read them all finally).

For those of similar taste as me, go out and get a hold of copies of these movies (if you don't already have them):  Brotherhood of the Wolf (Les Pacte des Loups), it's long but excellent.  Nocturna, if you can find it, it's a great foreign animated film about a little boy in an orphanage who is afraid of the dark and realizes that someone's stealing the stars in the sky and then learns about the world that exists after everyone else goes to sleep.  There are a group of people who make some hilariously bad movies (on purpose) that are worth checking out, The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, The Return of the Skeleton of Cadavra, Dark and Stormy Night and The Trail of the Screaming Foreheads.  I love the Beastmaster movies, Night of the Comet, The Puppet Master series, Garth Marengi's Dark Place (awesome british series lasted only 6 episodes), A Scanner Darkly, etc.

The good thing is, BOOM! Studios has been adapting Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep for some time now, pick that up and see if it makes Blade Runner make more sense...

Of course the production of the movie was doomed from the beginning, with all the problems they had in adapting the story, so while technically at the time Blade Runner was a stunning visual masterpiece (and still is), most of what you see today has drawn from that movie.  It's kind of the same way kids these days don't dig on Citizen Kane, even though the movie was ground breaking.  The techniques have been adapted and they see it as old and outdated.

So not liking/understanding Blade Runner does not mean you have bad taste...

Good to know.  I have Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep on my Kindle now amongst a few other Phillip K. Dick novels to check out, and I think I did read one issue of the Boom! Studios comic which seemed engaging, especially how they're using the prose directly from the book and just adding appropriate visuals to match the words (correct me if I'm wrong).  The comic form may very well be my best opportunity in understanding what's going on, the same way my first introduction into John Carter is the Warlord of Mars series.

I also think that I didn't see Blade Runner for the ground breaking movie that it must have been because I first watched it on DVD probably 20 years after it was made, therefore I'd seen everything that has been done in that movie a million times before seeing this one, that and I'd already seen The Matrix.  But I'll have to watch it again maybe and give it another shot with that in mind.  I still give mad props to John Carpenter's The Thing for its amazing physical effects, that's got some fantastic prosthetics and creature creations.

Taste is subjective, sure, but that doesn't mean you can't acknowledge you have some bad taste.  That's where guilty pleasures come from.  It is like eating hamburgers even though you know they are unhealthy for you.

If you can sit back and objectively notice what is wrong with something and like it in spite of those flaws, you might have some bad taste about that thing, but it is still okay to like it.  I can say that there are plenty of things wrong with The Cape, and that it isn't great TV, but I still like watching it.  So long as you know why you like it, people are going to have a hard time arguing that you shouldn't like it.

My roommates hate Law&Order SVU, but I love it.  They don't like watching a show they describe as "a rape show" because it is depressing.  But I know exactly why I like it, the motives are so alien to me that I find the stories fascinating.  They understand my obsession with peculiar human psychology so they don't judge me for liking a show that they personally find disturbing.  So just be able to articulate your opinions on things you think people will question you about, and everything will work out fine.

For most things, I really don't care what people think so long as I like it.  There are things where I wonder if people will react poorly to my choices but I'm never at a point where I feel like I chose poorly because it's unpopular.  I like what I like, even if it's unpopular.  I may second guess decisions that I'm on the fence about but when I know for sure about something, then I don't really care what the world thinks.

I'll say it loud and proud.  Batman & Robin isn't nearly as bad of a movie as people make it out to be.  Batman Forever, on the other hand, is just really horrible.

I think it's fair to point out that Batman & Robin revels in its campiness, whereas Batman Forever takes itself seriously. I still don't personally like both movies though.

I agree with Greyman that it's good to question your tastes, but for the reason that it will help you learn more about yourself rather than about what you like.

To @tlantis, the only Law and Order I like is SVU, but for me I think the reason I enjoy it so much besides just the characters is that the villains are usually so easy to hate and you feel vindicated when they get their comeuppance.  I just can't care about some corporate espionage or guy who stole some cars.  I really tried to like Law and Order: UK, I just couldn't get behind it.  The first couple episodes have the good guys not nail the bad guys, they get out on technicalities or they're just outclassed.  And it's not quite as urgent feeling when nobody is carry any guns and they have Closed Circuit TV cameras all over the place.  A criminal is caught on camera probably a dozen times leading up to, during and then after whatever crime they commit.

Everyone has a right to like or dislike things. Its part of what makes you who you are. If we all liked the same things then this would be a boring world. So embrace what you like and that portion of your tastes. I wrestled with this awhile with comics or shows. A lot of people will try to tell you why their fabulous piece of cake is better than your fabulous piece of cake, but what difference does it make. I buy what I like and I don't buy what I hate.

FINALLY!!!  I find another person that thinks the way I do!!!  That's exactly the point.  B&R is a modern Adam West movie while BF thinks they're just awesome.
