I'm surprised no one has started this topic yet ... but how'd your Free Comic Book Day go?

Well mine was pretty good, as I was able to make a big dent in obtaining some much sought after back issues.  And at least from my LCS, Bagged & Boarded in Bensalem, PA, it was good to see people out that usually don't frequent the dark nether regions of geek-dom.  Kids, parents ... and eeek! girls where there dutifully flipping through the dollar bins.

It was mentioned in one of the guys' podcasts, I  believe Matthew was addressing it in regards to the Serenity mini & Buffy series that more different people are frequenting comic shops.  Which is a great thing, despite the fact I want to turn into Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons when someone makes an assinine observation.

I was able to snap up a great deal of back issues to fill some holes, specifically in my various Civil War tie-ins, Iron Man, and The Walking Dead.  Believe it or not, I'm still trying to find a good bit of the Amazing Spider-Man arc from Civil War that aren't incentive covers or 3rd printings at a reasonable price.  I hope to rectify that at Wizard World Philly.

Anyway ... for those of you who participated and joined in the festivities ... what say you?

The wife, daughter and I went out to Heroes and Dreams, one of 4 comic shops in our area. We went there because it was the newest and the only one my wife had not been to. They had a good size crowd.

I didn't have much money, so I picked up a DC UNIVERSE #0 for myself and a DOCTOR WHO CLASSICS #5 for my wife. Free comic wise, I got the EC SAMPLER, Katie got the BONGO FREE-FOR-ALL, and we grabbed a TINY TITANS for our 5 week old daughter's first comic to start off her collection. We had missed the Mississippi 501st and the Mandalorian Mercs, but the artist was still there. I paid 5 dollars for a Captain America sketch, and there where so many people there I am having to wait for it. I'll post a pic when I get it.

I picked my sketch up today...

Done on a 8x11 paper.
Artist was a local guy named Jeff Labbe
Before the fire I owned a good bit of original art. This is actually the first original sketch I have bought in almost two years.

The crown jewel of my collection has to be my sketch cover of Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America that Humberto Ramos did for me last year at Wizard World Philly.  For a guy who doesn't draw Cap he did an amazing job.  I'll scan it tomorrow and post it.

But Stacy B. ... that's good stuff. You can never go wrong with Cap.
