I'm looking to see if anyone can suggest any decent anime that may not be something one would just stumble across or might not be as well-known.  Feel free to suggest series and movies both.

I really don't have a list of what I like or prefer, just so long as the premise and story is interesting I'll watch just about anything.  I'm just a little tired of being limited to what I see on TV.  Don't get me wrong, I like most of it (FMA: Brotherhood and Kekkaishi being the two I'm following closest currently) but I find myself wanting more variety, even if it is just a really good movie.  Subtitled is fine as I'm nearly deaf and use subs or captions with every movie or show I watch anyway.

Heeheehee, I was just talking about Video Girl Ai and Zatch Bell with a friend of mine last night.  She's seen Video Girl Ai (I've seen..  part of the begining of it on YouTube before it went down for maint. one night then forgot about it), but didn't know there was a live-action movie (which I stumbled across info about while looking at an anime and mange list) and I told her how I thought the Zatch Bell dubbed anime was weird.  Not bad weird, just weird.  I like weird, usually.   Cheesy

Thanks for the list, I'll have to look up info about the various things and see if any catch my attention.   Wink

What genre are you into?

I'm a big fan of K-On and K-On!! I'm also a huge fan of School Rumble for school comedy.

Check out Gurren Lagann if you haven't for some cool mecha action.

I think so.  I liked the movies, though.  And I wish I had a demon in my hand.   Cheesy

I like all kinds of things, from fantasy and sci-fi to drama to "It's nothing but giant robots beating the crap out of each other" and so on.  Pretty much anything that the setting and story sound interesting to me, I'll watch it.

Gurren Lagann is something I've meant to give a watch, but I keep forgetting about.  Thanks for reminding me.   Wink

I'll second Gurren Lagann, and also suggest the Read or Die miniseries.

Am I that old?  Most of the shows suggested in this thread are what I would consider MEGA popular shows.  Definately not obscure.  Vampire Hunter D, Dragonball, Fullmetal Alchemist, Galaxy Express 999, Ranma 1/2, ... sigh.  I guess the youth of today wouldn't know the giants of the past.

Next thing you know, I'll be seeing suggestions for Akira, Demon City Shinjuku, Devil Hunter Yoko, La Blue Girl, Cutie Honey, Mermaid Scar, Slayers, or Perfect Blue.  I feel so old.

(BTW ... Video Girl AI is a great show.  Bastard was great too.)

With the exception of the one I crossed out, I've seen all of those too, so maybe we're both old.

Heck, I still have somewhere a "copy of a copy" VHS of home-subtitled Dragonball from a mailing tree from between the time DBZ stopped airing in the US on syndication and before it went to Cartoon Network to finish it's run.  (For the young'uns, a mailing tree was from a time before high-speed internet allowed us to share things online easily.  You would be on a list of people sent a VHS to copy, then you sent it on to the next person on the list, usually to share TV shows or movies not readily available such as anime or bootleg Roger Corman Fantastic Four for example.)
