It's pretty much a given for me.

For movies yes, definitely.  For other stuff, not so much.  Don't like his podcast or his comics that much.

His first three movies were stellar...then...he's kinda slipped.

Liked "J&SBSB", but "Clerks 2" was a real step backwards.  "Jersey Girl" was pretty lacking, and (I know it wasn't written by Smith), but "Cop Out" was pretty dire.

LOVED his run on "Green Arrow", was enjoying his run on "Spider-man & Black Cat" until there was a HUGE gap between issues and I'd lost interest by the time it came back around.

HATED his stuff on "Batman".  Average writing, worse art.  And when Batman pissing himself was retconned into Year One...I dropped him.

Curious to see what "Red State" turns out like, but from the trailer it just looks like more Saw/Hostel torture-porn for me to avoid.

Kevin is a pretty damn good writer, but his style isn't workable for all characters.  I love his dialogue, I love his talent for slipping a little bit of emotion into characters who don't seem to be all that emotional, I even love his take on Batman (while admitting it's not the normal Batman image, which can be alienating to hardcore fans.)

I'm a huge fan, ever since I saw Clerks...

I like Kevin Smith but he's not one of the first people who comes to mind for me in terms of writers. As others said, he can be a bit inconsistent.

Smith is a really good writer, but as Matthew pointed out, his style doesn't work for all characters.  Smith recently said in one of his many podcasts that he does write action very well, and doesn't really like or fully grasp how to direct it, but like Tarantino, his long dialogue exchanges work perfectly when lined up with the right character.  A long discussion about smoking a big fatty works well for Jay and Silent Bob, or why you shouldn't do ATM, works for characters falling in love, but doesn't really fit with Batman, which is a different monster all together...

Lately, the more I listen to Smith on his podcasts, the more I discover that his views and mine tend to align.  Then again, Adam Carolla and I tend to think a lot a like, too.

I've never read anything he's done.  And the only movie I've seen him in is Dogma.  Which I loved.

.... oh ... and whenever I hear him on the radio, I always find him very interesting and can't stop listening to him.  I've only really heard him sit in with Opie and Anthony and perhaps once with Preston and Steve.

He is pretty good on his tour too.  The last one I saw was 5 or 6 years ago and he talked about the crap he went through in writing some of his movies.  He is a pretty funny guy.  He is doing another tour in 2011, but I don't remember the dates.  I recommend it to any fan that hasn't seen him.  Schleicher, I do know that Kevin Smith is coming to the Midland in Kansas City on that tour.

People used to describe me as "A female Silent Bob, but cuter".   Cheesy

I like the Jay and Silent Bob movies (And Clerks: The Animated Series), and I liked the "Evening with Kevin Smith" DVD's.  I liked his Tonight Show segments, I liked his spot on Superman: Doomsday.

I haven't really read his comic works, and I didn't care for Jersey Girl or a few of his other movies.

I'm a fan, but not a fanatic.   Although I DO have a Buddy Christ on my monitor.

Oh, man!  How did I forget "Clerks Animated"!

THAT was awesome.  I had to import the DVD from the States for some MASSIVE amount, back in the day.

Worth every dollar.

Also been a fan since Clerks. The only bit of fan boy decoration I own are two autographed and mounted posters from his movies (Chasing Amy and Clerks). Agreed on his writing. He can really bring personal and fascinating details to characters without totally destroying back-history or concepts, but they do have to fit his personal style--something that's not as obvious as you might think.

His work on Daredevil was amazing with "Guardian Devil". Haven't read Batman: Cacophony or been able to shell out the cash for Green Arrow: Quiver. For awhile, the only way to get it was in hardcover.

I was hip deep in the View Askew experience for quite awhile and consumed just about everything he put out. I still think he's an incredibly funny and smart guy, both in person and in his writing. I actually really enjoyed Clerks 2, and was impressed by the deeply personal story he told in Jersey Girl (the plot of which was the reverse of his life and came hard on the heels of the death of his own father). In fact, the best Smith stories are the ones that are deeply personal to him.

Anyway, yeah. Big fan.

If you listen to MSP, I don't know. Matthew quotes from it every other episode.

But, to be fair, it's tough to NOT quote from the show. There are some truly, truly awesome lines there. It was like the best parts of Simpsons, South Park, and Family Guy.

To be honest, it's been an age since I've actually watched it.

I must rectify that this weekend, methinks!
