I'll usually preface my statement saying that I'm going to definitely reserve my final judgement until after I see the movie.
Which is the only rational thing anyone could do. There's nothing wrong with discussing our thoughts on something we haven't seen for the sake of discussion but it is impossible to have a fully-formed opinion of something we haven't experienced.

Damascus. Do youself a favor and read the books. I started with Goblet of Fire and think that the writing is far better than the acting.

Angel is, sadly, another example of the studio pulling the rug out from under Joss. He tried to wrap things up as best he could but you can see where, near the end, he really tried to pack in enough to give the fans something epic. There wasn't a good way to bring enough closure to so much though.
Some of the things I've read about what was planned had the show not been canceled (some of which has been used in the comics, but not all) was really great stuff. And there was also the talks of the TV movies that would further the stories (and probably cleared up a few things), but those never came through either. It's a shame the show had to end when it did. The ending was great, but I think if they would have been able to implement some of those ideas (like Fred and Illyria
both
existing) and tie up loose ends over one more season it would have been a much more satisfying overall story.

How are you measuring the consistancy of Angel vs. Buffy?
Personally I found a lot of Angel to have some snooze worthy episodes where even bad Buffy episodes were good.
Not sure if I agree with the last part of your statement. Practically the ENTIRE fifth season of Buffy made me want to just drop the whole exercise. The horrible slog through horrible circumstance after horrible circumstance was just...bleh.
By contrast, Angel kept a more even keel, season-by-season. One episode may be off, but the next one seemed to make up for it. There weren't the valleys you saw in Buffy, but there weren't any peaks either.

I enjoyed Season 5 of Buffy. All the Glory stuff was fun. It was the stuff with Joyce dying that brought the energy down.
Another season of Angel would have been great. But of course I wasn't wanting it to end anyway.

I'm sorry. You're right. I'm thinking of Season 6. THAT was horrible. It was as if the entire season was written just to create new ways to make Buffy's life painful. Every episode was another agonizing slog.
The ONLY bright spot was that that was the season with Once More, with Feeling. That was in the top 5 of episodes for the whole series.

Can't believe I forgot this, but being the youngin' that I am,
Doctor Who
was a show that I completely missed out on until the revival, and even that I didn't seen until season 3 by accident. It is one of the few things I can watch multiple times and not care.

I have to second @lantis with is mention of Doctor Who.
I have been unemployed for the last 3 months and so I have had a lot of time in front of the tv. Then I noticed that Doctor Who reruns were being shown during the day on BBC America. After hearing the MS crew rave about this show I thought I would watch it. And I have loved it. Now, the last couple of weeks while my wife has been off work for the holidays I got her to watch a couple of episodes. Some of them with Matt Smith and some with David Tennant. And she loved them! So, I decided I would set my awesome DVR to record any episodes that came on. Low and behold, starting at 2 am on Dec. 31st until 7 pm Jan. 1st there was a marathon on. So, my DVR is filled with Doctor Who (I think might be the last season with David Tennant) and we have loved every episode.
The marathon started with the return of the Master arc. This had my wife and I so entranced that we almost skipped our New Year's Party b/c we wanted to watch 1 more episode. And to solidify how great this show really is, my wife has been asking questions about characters and if we could find DVDs of past episodes! Now, most of you are probably saying so what, but my wife doesn't like buying DVDs b/c she doesn't like watching things twice. It has to be one of her favorite movies or tv shows for her to watch it twice let alone consider buying it.
So, for anyone of you out there that haven't watched Doctor Who I recommend watching it with an open mind and join the cult that is Doctor Who followers!

Having been a fan since the original run, I've often had a hard time getting people to watch the new series despite the fact it is accessible without knowing what happened before. But when I finally can talk people into giving it a try, they usually want to watch more. Glad to hear you're enjoying it!
If I might suggest something for you to watch when you have about 10-15 minutes, the Doctor Who special
"Time Crash"
(a bit made for a charity special) is absolutely hilarious.

Over my long holiday break (woooh! 10.5 days off!), I decided to log some Netflix time. There were a few movies I decided I was going to watch only so that I could understand what my friends were talking about when they quoted them.
The Big Labowski(sp) - This was supposed to be a comedy? I didn't laugh. I guess it just wasn't for me.
Donnie Darko - I need to own this movie. I need to download Mad World for my MP3 player also. I have a new Top 10 film although I'm not sure where exactly it ranks.
Weeds (Seasons 1-3 ... so far) - I've liked it when I watched it over a friends house but I'm full blown addictied to it now.
And lastly ... Cleopatra (with Liz Taylor) - this is quite an amazing film. Still not as good as Gone with the Wind when comparing classic epics in my book but still something I'd buy. And damn Liz was a hottie!

Donnie Darko is a great movie. Definitely a mind trip and the sort of movie that can be discussed at length.
Plus: Frank, the demonic rabbit.

I like
The Big Lebowski
, but I do realize it isn't for everyone. It has tedious parts that I think it could have done without, but I still enjoy it as a whole.
My favorite part was when John Goodman dumped the ashes.

I had a bit of a movie marathon this week, I watched
Black Dynamite - Hilarious parody of Blaxplotation films, it gets to be a bit much towards the end but it's easily the best spoof made since probably the original Scary Movie.
Barton Fink - Terrific movie, had me glued to the screen the entire time everyone was amazing in this, especially John Goodman.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou - Another great film, not for everyone as it's deadpan style of humor might not be everyones style but it is a truly fantastic blend of comedy and drama, just like life.

I really enjoyed that movie, but I cannot seem to get most of my friends to give it a chance.
