Wasn't Miss America Marvel's first female hero, or does she not count because she was in the golden age (although she shown now and again in the Silver Age before her pointless death.)

I believe Miss America was a product of Timely Comics. Martin Goodman abandoned Timely in 1951 to form Atlas Comics and, yes, that led to Marvel.

But it wasn't an actual "Marvel" character until he was brought in later, I don't believe. I could be wrong though.
