Your GM was very very kind! Tongue By the way, I want to give Metal Adventures a try since it came out, I think two summers ago. Does it work well? I've been told that the game mechanics are quite similar to Shadowrun.

My GM was essentially trying to save his campaign, which would have pretty much gone down the toilet had we all died at this point, since the whole storyline hinges on this treasure map, as I understand it.

So far, I like Metal Adventures very much. The game really manages to set an atmosphere and mood, and really gets you going for some pirate action, because it encourages enthusiasm, audacity and over the top roleplay. The system is close to Shadowrun in that it uses boatloads of d6 ; characteristics and skills (both rated from 1 to 6) are combined to determine the number of dice rolled : every dice that gives 4 or more is a success.

Then you have the Metal Faktor, a reserve of 50 dice that circulate between the GM and the players. MF dice represent the "violence" you put into certain actions ; on skill rolls that authorize MF (like Piloting, Melee combat or even Seduction !), you can take as much MF dice as your base dice pool and add them to your roll. The catch is that every dice you use will go to the GM's reserve, from which he can then draw to boost his NPCs rolls. The idea is nice and gives an extra dynamic to the game.

Apart from that, the system is, I think, simpler than Shadowrun's, but it has detailed yet fluid mechanics for space combat. I recommend it ; if you can get yourself in the right mood, it can be a blast to play.

I was DMing a game with 5 lvl 3 PCs they were going up against a lvl 4 Black Dragon, the dragon hit twice and the PCs almost couldn't miss, the fight lasted all of 5 rounds. the worst part was the Pali in the group used his On Pain of Death Power and teh dragon couldn't save so it was taking like 5-7 damage ever turn along with the other attacks and then another PC used an ongoing damage power that lasted 2 turns , the PCs made it our taking min damage, it was teh worst encounter I have ever run.

They beat Terror that easily? Doing the math...

That was supposed to be a Hard encounter. Oh wait...Terror is level 5...

Here we go:
1 Young Black Dragon = Standard Difficulty

5 rounds sounds right for a standard difficulty.

yeah they were level 3 though supposed to be hard, the dragon was tired apparently or was suffering a hangover from the dwarven ale. or it may have been the Elven Granola (thank you CH)

I've just started DMing for my RL group again.

First session back and I have them fighting some massive shadowy beast near the end of the night.  The defender waits patiently for his go then pops a daily form change another minor to buff his attack and RPs a massive swing.  Rolls the dice and gets a Nat 1.

For the crit fail the beast jumped down his hammer and possessed him.  Session over.  I missed being a DM.

But wait folks thats not all...

Session two kicks off and eventually at the end of the night they are facing the shadow beast again.  This time they are trying to weaken it to capture it.  They do great work until the sorcery sets everything up for the capture and rolls....you guessed it. Nat 1.

For this crit fail I had all the shadows in the room including their own character shadows get sucked into and captured in the vessel.  Session over.

Now i'll have to work out some other consequences for not having a shadow  Grin

Nat 1s are a killer, aren't they? heh

My own irl PC was in a fight this weekend against an adversary that I'd been waiting on for 3 weeks.

My opponent Crits.

I roll a Nat 1.

Game over, dude. Game over.  Roll Eyes
