Now that we are on our second page of this thread, I feel obligated to point out that this is one of the many reasons Rap is better than Country.

Is that a Jonathan Kent reference or did I miss something?

I think you need to define the difference between Rap and Contemporary Rap (aka C.rap). Old school was a university. New school is the white trailer in the school yard.
Old rap > country
New rap < country
Emenime is the only one keeping any sembelance of the old days.

Eminem fought to rise out of his obscure beginnings. Now other would-be stars cling to him hoping to catch a ride on the fame train. Poetic.

That very much is. I just saw an interview special with him on channel 3 the other day. I learned a lot about the man and walked away from it with a lot more respect for what he does. He truely honors the style and philosophy of this predecessors IMO.

He does. He mentions them often in his lyrics to, as a way to honor them.
Sure, he's had his dark days and his issues, like all of us. But I find his music often as inspirational for me as it is cathartic for him.

Also wanted to mention something on topic:
The video for "The Real Slim Shady" has him spoofing Batman and Robin with him and Dre. That and at one point a lyric is the "na na na na na na na" ala Adam West's style.
And there is also the part that goes "This looks like a job for me ..." as in "this looks like a job for Superman".

No. I was reaching like Plastic Man Yeah, sorry. That's the end of the game for you. But we do have some lovely parting gifts. So that's it, Gaumer. No more Country for you. ... Well, okay. You can watch the videos with the sound off. There is still something to be enjoyed there. Better get out there and buy Eminem's "Recovery" cd. All of the songs with comic book references I'd quoted earlier was from that. Also, a side gripe: Unthinkingly, I bought the cd at Wal-Mart. It is the edited version. I think I paid full price for 60% of the songs. One of them may as well have just been 5:04 of silence. The only cussing to be heard is me trying to listen to the cd.
