Author Topic: Hijacked e-mail  (Read 883 times)

It seems my Yahoo e-mail address has somehow been hijacked. So now Yahoo is sending out solicitous e-mail from my address to all the contacts in my address book.

Short of deactivating that account, is there a way to stop this problem?

This e-mail has been my primary e-mail for ten years and is also the e-mail I use for my business (as I have yet to set up my corporate e-mail). So if anyone knows of any way to stop the spread of this internet evil, please let me know. Thanks.

Details. What did it send? Have you changed your password and secret questions since then?

The only thing I have seen it send so far is an e-mail that only contains a link in the body. It goes to some health web site.

But generally the only way I am noticing it is because I get e-mails bounced back from recipients it can't locate.

I have changed my password and secret question, although I don't know if that has fixed it.

You have probably already done everything this article suggests...

I did in fact read that article last night. Thanks.

I will wait and see if any more spam e-mails get sent from my account... or if I notice my credit cards are maxed out as 500 plastic statues of Elvis arrive by UPS.

I always suggest running anti-virus/anti-maleware on your pc to make sure they didn't get your account info through a trojan of some sort.

Then I change all my security information.

Thanks, Brian.

I had to log into my personal e-mail the other day from a client's computer. I am not certain that it isn't their computer that has the malicious software.

Sounds like it could be a strong possibility.  That sucks when you have to rely on the safety of others.

If I could leave the planet and live on Mars like Doctor Manhattan, I'd do it.

This has happened to both of my Yahoo accounts. Changing the password fixed it in both cases.

Yeah, it seems to be okay now.

Maybe my clever passwords of "password" and "123" just weren't sophisticated enough?   Wink

Maybe add a capital 'P'?

While you are at it, change the lock combination on your luggage.
