When steering wheels were first put into cars they were called 'whips' because drivers had previously used a real whip to steer the team of horses that powered the carriage.

The term today has come to mean 'a person's vehicle'.

So what's you're fav ride of the comic stars?

I have so many but I'll go with Ghost Rider's motorcycle.

I can just hear Xibit now: "We heard you love chains, dog..."

I didn't know that was the term or where it came from. Thanks for the education. I feel smarter already.   Cool

Ghost Rider's bike is hard to beat.

Silver Surfer's surfboard is pretty Radd.

MODOK's chair sucks. So does the Fantasti-Car.

No doubt most will claim the Batmobile, just for the iconic nature. Maybe even Diana's invisible airplane.

Does Iron Man's armor count?  Wink

I honestly would say the bat mobile from batman beyond.

Red Illuminated cockpit, top speed of Mach 3, Projected screens, Radar, Super Magnets, Clamps, electrified grappling hooks, missles, cloaking device, and remote control via the batsuit.

But maybe the Batmobile from Brave and the Bold...if only because of this:

I know these are TV images...but still.

I don't think anyone can mention the Batmobile without mentioning WHICH Batmobile. Honestly, I like 2 of them, and neither were in the comics:

1. From 1989's Batman:

While obviously useless as a vehicle (no visibility, too large to navigate tight corners or tight spots and no real way to BACK UP), it was amazing in almost every other way. The gadgets it housed (impenetrable retractable armor, extendable gatling guns, grappling guns for sharp cornering, wheel grenades, and voice-controlled, fully automated self direction) were just awesome without being too silly. The look was, likewise, stylish but without resorting to complete foolishness.

2. From 2005's Batman Begins:

The Tumbler had far fewer gadgets than Michael Keaton's version and was nowhere near as stylish, but what it lost in those corners it more than made up for in versatility. Some of its stylistic cues seemed to come from ROTDK, but mostly, by abandoning what most of us would consider a car to look like, they made a much more powerful vehicle: both literally and figuratively.

By the by, when I was looking for this, I came across some amazing fan art someone did of an Autobot Tumbler

A lot of fans decried the Tumbler but I thought it made perfect sense for an urban environment (even though not originally designed for that).

Simple, TARDIS.  Everything you could ask for in a vehicle, plus it looks like a phone box.

TaaII, the world-ship of Galactus. Not only is it solar-system sized (now that's some square footage!) but Reed Richards once speculated it might be the greatest source of energy in the Marvel universe.
