In the late 80's/early 90's, Milton Bradley sold 2 games with similar mechanics and objectives. Axis and Allies was actually available previously and allowed up to 5 players to represent major WWII forces. Shogun (later renamed as Samurai Swords, due to potential confusion with James Clavell's novel of the same name) was all about feudal Japan, and the battles between different clans for supremacy of the island nation.

I was a huge fan of both of these games. Just wondering if anyone else enjoyed them.

I have only played this game a couple of times, but it was fun. I do not remember much about it other than the name.

Shogun, with the little cubes in the towers? Its fun, but not my favorite. Too much is left up for chance, although it is nice that things tend to balance out. Strategiclly, the game isn't too predictable, though, which is nice.

Don't remember any cubes or towers. This one had military units (swordsmen, gunners, archers, spearmen and Daimyo), swords, and a ninja.

Here's basically what it looks like:

Here is what Axis & Allies looks like.

Well, if it has a ninja it's got to be cool.

I remember in early high school that ninjas were talked about as the baddest of the bad. I don't hear much about them any more.

heh Yeah

Remember all the ninja movies back in the early 80's. I can only recall one released in the U.S. in the last decade.

Yeah. Ninja Assassin, right? Wasn't there another one, recently, too?

Not that I can think of. Maybe.

Seemed like the 80's had all kinds of them. Sho Kosugi is still doing his thing though.

I wonder if Japanese children play board games with rednecks, NASCAR fans, and deer hunters?
