Hi everybody,

I am very new to comics and I would like to start reading some Ironman comics mainly because I am familiar with the character through the movie.  I am not sure really where to start though so if you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it.  Thanks.

I occasionally see an inquiry on where to start with a given series. Usually I feel it's fine to start at the current issue and move forward.

It's kind of like a soap opera. If you couldn't start at the beginning when would one start? Well, now would be as good a time as any.

If you start with an issue that isn't part of a large crossover or comic event spanning multiple titles, that's best. But those are frequent as well.

So if the cover doesn't say "Part # of whatever" I say go for it. As you read you have plenty of people here who can answer questions for you.

Good luck, Hancider. And Enjoy!

While Nav is right, Invincible Iron Man is still pretty recent only on about issue 27 right now so you can find the trades pretty easily, the comic was specifically designed for the people who want to get into Iron Man after the movie. If you go to the comic store you can most likely find a copy of the Five Nightmares trade.

Thanks for the advice folks.  I never thought of it like a soap opera before so that brings down the intimidation factor for me a bit.  I will try and check out some invincible iron man then when I get to the comic shop.  I also found that if you go to the marvel website they have a lot of information there on what issues are out there.  Anyways thanks again.

I am going to say start with two classics. The "Demon in the Bottle" which can be found under the title, "The Power of Ironman". And "Armor Wars". There is no need to break the bank, you can find cheap copies of old TPB's, especially in this economy.

If you don't mind black and white.  I really find the Marvel Essentials line to be pretty good at catching up.

I'd say you don't even need to bother finding all the trades.  I jumped on to  Invincible Iron Man at the start of the "Stark Reassembled" arc (about issue 15 I think? Had those really striking covers by Salvatore Larocca) and haven't had any problems with the series.  Might even be able to find the single issues if you look around for them!
