Gaumer, yeah nice catch on those ravens. I mentioned that to my new girlfriend (gasp, what??) and she was impressed.

Also, this hasn't really been brought up by anyone yet, but I have something to say about Coulson's fate. I have a feeling that we actually haven't seen the last of Coulson.

Also, with Thanos we may be involving Death and so we're getting into metaphysics. Coulson might be dead...but not done.

Maybe it is just me hoping in vain, but I don't think that the character is gone. We already know that Fury lied about the cards as a way to motivate the team, so it isn't a gigantic jump.
That is EXACTLY what I said to my wife.
Also, while Joss has a habit of doing this, I call it "Wash-ing", I read it wasn't actually his decision this time. That was Marvel's call...so they might just have a master-plan...!?!

I still think Thanos is going to use Coulson somehow.

Who else has he killed on film besides Wash and Coulson? Is it a trend if its only two and one was forced by the production company??

And Marvel having a master plan was proved by this movie's success Smiley

Wash
Coulson
Anya
Buffy
Fred
Shepherd Book

The list is extensive, actually. Joss has a penchant for killing major characters.

Joss hasn't made as many films as he has television series. But I think theatrical films will be his foray from now on. Why would he work within the restrictions of television producers when he can create something as magnificent as Serenity, The Cabin in the Woods, and The Avengers?

What??

Because he's made enough money so HE can be the producer on a project!

And TV shows that I like are far better than movies that I like when taken as a whole, especially Whedon projects. I wouldn't give 5 Avengers movies for Firefly, no day, no way Smiley

Hopefully we get a bunch of both.

Hopefully. But I often hear television series are more grueling and restrictive.

He should just start his own studio. Maybe get his own television network too. Yeah.

If he asked SyFy or AMC to do a show they would give him COMPLETE freedom to do anything he wanted, and, after Avenger's success, it would be guaranteed. I agree that the networks may be a bit less  constrictive but I know it could happen, and I hope it does.

Hell, give his ass an HBO series.

There was a plan to bring back Fred had Angel lasted another season.

So it seems more like he has comic-book death syndrome, he likes to kill off major characters but not let them stay dead.

Yeah, that puts me back to my "Thanos will use Coulson" theory.

Yeah, that puts me back to my "Thanos will use Coulson" theory.

I'm on board with that theory, because if you look at his track record, both on screen and what was planned but never made, lots of characters were killed and either brought back or meant to be.  Buffy died twice, Angel was sent to hell (essentially a death of sorts), Fred was going to be brought back, even Willow's girlfriend was meant to be brought back towards the end (but the actress was unavailable).  Even if Marvel said to kill off the character, it works for him because this is sorta his style: Character died only to be brought back in some spectacular fashion.

Yes, it's definitely a comic book type thing. It also works with Thanos's connection to Death herself.

It might be that Coulson will be somewhat like Hawkeye in this movie: controlled and used for some time but eventually freeing himself in a heroic moment to help the heroes.

Two scenes I hope make it into the Extended Director's Cut of "The Avengers" (from IMDB):

1) According to director Joss Whedon, the original cut of the movie was over 3 hours long. There will be about 30 minutes of the excised footage included in the DVD Release, most of which revolves around Steve Rogers (Captain America). Whedon revealed that one of these scenes involved Rogers struggling to adjust to the modern world in his Brooklyn apartment and another revealed Steve Rogers' reunion with Peggy Carter, his love interest from Captain America: The First Avenger.

2) Reputedly a scene was filmed where during the final battle Captain America saves an old man trying to protect his grandchildren. He tells him to 'Get them to cover' but as he walks away the old man asks him "Cap, is that really you?'. He turns and noting the man's World War 2 veteran lapel pin trades salutes with him. As Captain America sprints away the children ask their grandfather 'Do you know him?' and he replies 'We ALL know him'.

Also, a little thing that made me chuckle:

When Natasha Romanoff and Bruce Banner are blasted to a lower deck of the Helicarrier, it triggers Banner's transformation into the Hulk. As he is transforming, he falls from a platform to the floor. On the floor is painted "WARNING CONTENTS UNDER PRESSURE" with small arrows, which happen to be pointing to Banner.

(All Hail Joss)
