The film is to be called 'Avengers Assemble' in the UK to avoid conflict with the old tv show 'The Avengers'

Yes, the trailer I watched ended with the "Avengers Assembled" logo, as it was the UK trailer.

I like just "Avengers" better and am glad they are using that in the US.

So, what did you think of the trailer?

A couple of the scenes looked a bit Michael Bay-like (Hulk catching Iron Man and the metallic ship chasing Iron Man at the end) but I'm not worried. Although we have seen mostly only action, that's what fills seats in an action movie.

Josh is great at developing character and seamlessly integrating it into the existing action. So I expect I'll be pleased both for the action as well as the characterization.

I remember a time, not so long ago, that the general public didn't know of Iron Man. Now of course he's a household name.

Captain America has been my personal hero since I was six years old. I was owning Cap paraphernalia before it was cool. Now J.C. Penny's has Captain America t-shirts and people associate the character with Chris Evans.

I have always wanted to get into the hobby of archery. I think I would enjoy it.

Now the Avengers movie is coming out. By the time I take up archery, will even the average citizen start making Hawkeye jokes at me?

I wouldn't. But some may, yeah.

I took a few months of archery training classes in my youth. I was motivated by the Olympics and turned off by the leaning towards hunting in the classes.

It was really fun though. I have an actual archery range in a park in my hometown. Are you planning on taking classes, and if so how so, or are you just going to stack a few bales of hay in the backyard? I had both Smiley

Not to derail the thread but, hey, maybe I'll be the next Hawkeye.   Cool

I don't know too much about what is involved. I assumed I'd need to buy a bow, a quiver, an arm guard, and arrows. Does that about cover it?

I could take a class, just to learn basic technique. Right now the extent of my knowledge is: nock arrow, pull string and aim, release; try to adjust if you missed. Do I need more training than that or just practice?

Also, can I continue to reuse arrows? If they aren't broadheads or anything and I'm just firing into hay bales and such then they should be reusable, is that right? How long does each last?

Yeah, if you're just starting out and wanting to dip your toes in the hobby you should go and get a starter kit at Wal-Mart and some hay bales at Home Depot and go at it.

Things get pricier as get better quality equipment. I had a 100 dollar bow back in the day and my instructor had a 500 dollar masterpiece, but you can get them for 20 bucks and I've seen Olympic competition bows go for thousands.

You need all that stuff, and a release is sometimes helpful.

Its been forever since I even touched a bow though. I had fun with it when I did it though.

Arrows were costing a fortune. You know how hard it is to get a boxing glove attached to an arrow?

I will always make jokes about you, but then again I am above average.

Check this: a visit to the Avengers movie set. The descriptions are more telling than the pictures themselves.

Did anyone watch the Avengers red carpet event on youtube last night?

What do you think about the Chitauri as Loki's villains?

In anticipation of the Avengers movie, next week I am gonna watch all the Marvel movies. The official Marvel Movie Universe movies, so not the X-Men movies, or the ghastly Fantastic Four flicks. I'm excited about Avengers, and my Avengers Anticipation week.
Which is your favorite of the Marvel Movie Universe movies?
Also, how do ye in the US feel about Avengers Assemble opening a full week before the Avengers opens stateside?

I think that Iron Man was noticeably better than the other Marvel films, though not by a great margin. Iron Man 2 was the weakest of the 4 films, only because they tried too hard to recapture what made the first film great instead of letting Tony evolve.

Captain America is my favorite comic book character (by far) so I couldn't possibly tell you how excited I was to see that film. I think they did a very good job of capturing what makes Steve Rogers exceptional.

Thor was good. I wasn't blown away but I liked it well enough. As I mentioned in another thread, I felt they spent too much time on the Thor/Jane romance and not enough on the Thor/Loki dynamic as well as character development. This is especially poignant as Loki is the main villain of The Avengers.

As for Avengers Assemble releasing in the UK before The Avengers, I'm not even sure why that is happening. Can someone tell me?

I fortunately got to see the film last night as my office got a bunch of tickets to a showing as an 'end of project bonus' type thing, and I have to say, it was amazing.
I'm not going to spoiler anything, ironically, but suffice to say the mix of big action scenes was very well balanced against a level of 'characterfulness' from the main antagonists.
I was especially impressed by Black Widow as a character, I thought she was pretty much insignificant in the Iron Man films and was presented in a much improved way this time round.

Overall I'd say its amongst the best superhero films I've seen. There may be thigns in there that make comic nerd rage a bit, but I dont read comics, so didn't notice any and more importantly, don't care Smiley
