The following is quoted from DC Universe Online on Facebook.com:

REMOVED BY ADMIN:  As posted in the Rules of the Forum, do not copy and paste content from another site unless A) you own the material, or B) you have been given permission to repost.

After all is said and done, I'm happy and have learned to ignore Mark Hamill when he says he's going to retire from doing the Joker the next 5 times he does it.

So no need to set up another topic, but after seeing that trailer (which will not be as good as the game in terms of looks), that was a thing of beauty. As I do not know much of DC, this certainly cements my leaving World of Warcraft and coming on board to DCU. I was at work watching the trailer and all my nerdy coworkers came around watching it on my Iphone. The excitement was instantly contagious and now we are all looking to get this game day of release.

I'm just curious about why the information was removed.  It states that "B.) you have been given permission to repost." and the source that I quoted it from came fully equiped with a "SHARE" button.  Wouldn't that mean that putting information on facebook is essentially intended to be reposted? (especially since you can disable sharing.)  Also curious about how we're supposed to share news without discussing it?  Not trying to cause static but it just seems that this is rather oxymoronic.

I'd like to have this cleared up as well.

I understand citing a source and maybe not copying and pasting straight out of the article and I understand MS's desire to not want the drama that comes with infringing on someone's material

But we have to have some sort of way to cite sources so we can discuss them.

A great way to cite a source - Link to it...  There is nothing that says you can't post a link to a site that contains the information you wish to discuss.  The only thing you can't do is put a link to spam, porn, or a clear attempt that you are trying to sell something for your own gain.

Also I don't mind select quotes from an article that is properly cited for discussion, but I don't like an entire story/article copy and pasted in especially if it is not clear if the information that is being pasted is copyright material or not.

A better way to have shared the information

HEY! Did you guys see they announced the voice actors for the upcoming DC Universe Online game?  The full press release is over on the DCU online facebook page.

http://www.facebook.com/DCUniverseOnline?v=app_2347471856#!/DCUniverseOnline?v=app_2347471856&ref=nf

In a nutshell Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy return!? How kewl is that!? OMFG!

Also the share button on the original article does not send or share the full article, just the first couple of lines with a link to the site. So in a sense, the "Share" button does not give you the right to copy and paste, but simply alert with a link to the article.

While this particular article is clearly a press release it could have gone as is, however there is nothing denoting on that particular page that the information is a press release (usually noted by Official Press Release tag), nor is there any Fair Use of CC tag on that page or the Facebook site that says the information can be posted elsewhere.
