Sign up if you'd like to try your hand at a Super Hero Themed RPG Play by Post.

What You Need
  • An Idea for a Super

How it will work
  • This is a 1 Shot game just to give people a feel for a Super Hero RPG expect it to be short and sweet
  • It will use the Wild Talents system (i'll explain everything you need to know so no need to buy anything)
  • Invisible Castle can be used to roll dice
  • The setting is simple.  You are a super hero team protecting your city from harm.
  • Basically the game is limited to your imagination and your luck

I will do all the heavy lifting
  • To keep things even I will build character sheets from your concepts (see more info below)
  • I would appreciate it if no-one else created a thread about this game but me.  There should be absolutely no need anyway.

So if your interest make your mark below!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Character Creation
This system is not the easiest for character creation however once you've got the hang of it you can whip people up pretty quickly.  As DM I often need to make calls on certain powers people want so its just going to be easier for me to build them for you (lucky you).  This is what I need.

A description of what your character looks like, acts and his/her super powers AND how/where s/he got them.  Have a look at the description below. Your character will probably have a mix of all 3 power types.  I need to know which is more important to you.  Also referring to existing characters would be helpful too (Eg. I want to fly using my voice like Banshee).  For each power I need to know what you want to be able to achieve with it.

There are three power types in wild talent.
  • Stats
  • Skills
  • Powers

Stats: Are your base characteristics like strength and intelligence (although they aren't called that).  So you could have a super strength stat like the Hulk.

Skills: Are more specialised uses of Stats like fist fighting or fixing a car (once again not called that). So you could have super weaponry skill like the Punisher.

Powers: These are the things that people just aren't meant to be able to do (called miracles).  So you could have lazer beams shoot from your eyes like Cyclops.

If I need more info, i'll PM you or ask in here.

I might be interested, if I can figure out the mechanics of PBP (see post over in the PBP: General Discussion thread).

Just curious. Is this a system you've created or is it one of the published ones?

Wild Talents is Published by Arc Dream Publishing.

Depending on interest you can always give it a shot and drop out if it doesn't work.
Or be a character that stays out of the front line helping in other ways that don't affect the flow of the game directly.

This is really just a demo so people can have a peek at Super Hero RPGing.  Its not going to turn into a campaign or ongoing thing. So it might be a good one to test if you like PBPs.

As it's going to be a short adventure I would be interested.

I think I would like to play my character from the Legion of Fans thread ongoing in the General Discussion section. But I don't know if you've been reading that.

Long story short: A female character from another dimension who is an excellent hand-to-hand combatant. She has the ability to teleport herself and others, but only in areas of darkness and deep shadow.

She can see in darkness and has enhanced hearing. She is mute and completely unaccustomed to this dimension so she is very naive and tends to cling to those with whom she feels safe. Muteness would be a big challenge in a PbP and I can change that aspect of her character for the game if necessary though that is how the character has always been.

I can easily give you more information on the character if we get some people to play.

There's one character I loved using in the old days. I'd be curious about the translation. Basically, he could shift into a finite number of mystical creatures (still retaining his own thoughts and personality). When I created the character, I used the D&D Monster Manual as the source for the creatures, and there were five of them.

The creatures were 1) Bullette (land shark) 2) Invisible Stalker 3) Slithering Tracker 4) White Dragon 5) Black Dragon.

We scaled down the powers of each to make them make sense (I mean, armor that turns a blade or arrow isn't the same thing as turning automatic weapons fire or an energy blast), and the character was incapacitated for a turn while shifting from creature to creature.

In Marvel Super Heroes (the game), we mimicked the "changeling" character.

Tough to say what the character was like compared to others (as I don't know of too many that fit this kind of mold...as his transformation is voluntary), but his personality was kind of Peter Parker as Spider-Man-ish.

I'd like the sign up.  Like Navarre, I have a character I created over in the "Legion of Fans" thread called Slip.  The problem is that her powers are kind of hard to define in terms of game play.  Basically she can control friction in herself and nearby people/objects. If you've ever read any of Marvel's New Universe stuff back in the 80's (yeah, I'm old), she's just like the character Friction from D.P. 7.
   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friction_(comics)

Stats wise, agility very high due to Gymnastics and Free Running/Parkour skills. Stength and endurance of normal human athlete.  Average intelligence and low fighting skills.

If you think this could work, let me know and I'll get you more details.  Otherwise I can come up with a more standard type of character.

Thanks!

Just pulled Wild Talents 2E from a shelf. Is this the right book?

Yup, don't go making a character though, the rules still stand even if you,ve got the book.

For the friction character, can you describe some things you wish to do with the powers please.

The changeling is doable but I doubt your creatures will be as strong as DND dragons. It also sounds like a character, are you happy with that? Posting may be more frequent.

OK, trying to think of this in gaming terms for Slip:

She will need some movement powers.  She can basically glide/skate on any surface (like the Spidey villain Slyde or Skids from the X-Men titles).  This will give her slightly higher than normal speed.  Her powers also allow her to increase friction, so she'll have a weak wall crawling ability (her gymnastic and parkour skills would also assist with this).

She would remain frictionless while fighting, so no one should be able to hold/restrain her.  Blunt force attacks against her would have reduced damage due to the blows glancing off of her, unless of course it was a direct hit.

By decreasing friction in others, I see this as lowering their accuracy in attacks due to them trying to keep their balance, hold onto their weapons, etc.  By touching things like machines, robots, or power suits, she could try increasing the friction for a temporary incapacitating/freezing result.

I think that's it for the basics; does this help?

That's fine if we scale back the power (I'd also be fine with trading in the 2 dragons with one other flying creature--I found the flying power to be very helpful).

Not sure what you mean when you say it "sounds like a character". More frequent might be fine, depending on what you mean by "frequent". Smiley

I found a Wild Talents character sheet online.  Without going into character creation, I can fill in some of the blanks.

Name/Aliases:  Macy Sloan/Slip
Description:  Height:  5'1
Weight:  110
Eyes:  Blue
Hair:  Brunette, shoulder length
(Think Michelle Trachtenberg crossed with a gymnast)
Occupation:  College Student with gymnastics scholarship

I'm not sure of the rest.  Coordination should be high.  Under Body Skills I think Athletics and Endurance should be whatever passes for peak human standards.  Depening on how Block is defined, this could be higher than normal human. For Coordination I think the Dodge value would be her best attribute.

Basic stuff for Wraith for you to use:

Name/Aliases:  No true name / Code-Name: Wraith / Assumed Name: Alice
Description:  Height:  5' 7"
Weight:  115
Eyes:  Light green
Hair:  Jet black, mid-back length, messy

Occupation:  Tribal Scout

Athletics, Stealth, Dodge, and Brawling would all be extremely high. Perception and Scrutiny would high. Lie, Persuasion, Leadership, and Interrogation would be almost non-existent. ... Driving? HA!

I also have a development in her powers that I haven't even mentioned in the Legion of Fans thread yet but maybe this is all you'll want/need, dunno.
