caught my attention which ones out of these would you recommend?

Shonen:
Ah My Goddess is a long, and still running, 'harem fantasy scifi battle' manga. I recommend this one.
I haven't read the Full Metal Panic, but I watched the show and it is a great long 'sci-fi battle' series.

Shoujo?:
Mysterious Girlfriend X  is a odd romance manga revolving around...this one girls special saliva.
Video Girl AI is a romance where this boy with no luck with girls finds this video store in the middle of a street. When he brings the video home, a girl pops out of the tv. Lots of funny things occur.

I have yet to start on the others you mentioned, but heard things about them.

Right now I am reading History's Strongest Disciple and it is a GREAT Shonen Battle manga!

I've only read:

Castlevania Vol 1 & 2 (all they released)
Return to the Labyrinth
Full Metal Alchemist Vol 1-4

Never really liked manga as much as comics or novels though.

For me it is kinda the opposite, I cant seem to get into comics as I have yet to find one where the story and characters interest me
