If you don't remember the 70s, don't worry, they are remaking the show, and it the pilot should hit the air in the next year.
Sorry to break it to you Steven, but they passed on the pilot for the Rockford Files remake, so there won't be one...
Also I'm pretty sure I'm the youngest on this forum (17) and I knew what Rockford Files was! So nobody has an excuse.

Lets face it, James Garner is Rockford.  Unless you have someone come in with a fresh take ala Mel Gibson who was still in the ballpark but a great actor, if would fall flat.  Knowing TV it would fall flat because they do not like to try anything new as a general rule.

My favorite is a pair of detectives actually.  Sam and Dean Winchester.  Them versus Constantine would be fun.  Whoever kills the most demons in a week wins.

Alright, fine, as punishment, I choose being forced never to be allowed to watch The Rockford Files, ever. Oh darn. Tongue

I hadn't thought right away of Sam and Dean. But Supernatural is my favorite show. So, Yeah!   Cool

As soon as I heard Dectective my mind auto-snaps to Batman and Sherlock Holmes.  But I realized they're not really my favorites.  Then I thought to myself "Self, who does more research than Sam and Dean?"

They are also the detectives most likely to use Latin in the course of their investigation.

Um...  John would sell them to the devil for a couple packs of smokes and feel guilty about it forever.

In the world of books, I really like Lucas Davenport and Mikael Blomkvist from the "Prey" and "Millenium" series, respectively.

From TV, everyone of the guys from USA network tv shows from Shawn Spencer to Mary Shannon And Rick Castle from "Castle"

In comics... Aside from the obvious choices like Daredevil and Batman, I like anyone from Ed Brubakers series.
