One Inch Tall

If you were only one inch tall, you'd ride a worm to school.
The teardrop of a crying ant would be your swimming pool.
A crumb of cake would be a feast
And last you seven days at least,
A flea would be a frightening beast
If you were one inch tall.

If you were only one inch tall, you'd walk beneath the door,
And it would take about a month to get down to the store.
A bit of fluff would be your bed,
You'd swing upon a spider's thread,
And wear a thimble on your head
If you were one inch tall.

You'd surf across the kitchen sink upon a stick of gum.
You couldn't hug your mama, you'd just have to hug her thumb.
You'd run from people's feet in fright,
To move a pen would take all night,
(This poem took fourteen years to write--
'Cause I'm just one inch tall).

That's not mine. That is the great Shel Silverstein.

He's the pre-puberty Dr. Suess.

Doctor Seuss (note spelling) was a grown man by the time he wrote his most notable works, sir...

A Dream Within a Dream

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
          Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
          That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

          I stand amid the roar
          Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
          Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
          Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
          One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

Excellent choice

I made this just off of the top of my head.

Dog Tired by Webmetz

Lids a are getting heavy,
time to get to sleep,
but to my annoyance,
into the room they creep.

The dogs wimper and whine.
I seem to be their page.
I am getting fed up with it.
I wish I brought a cage.

I tried to to make them tired.
I barricaded them near their bed,
but then they begin to howl and bark.
It begins to hurt my head

So here I am suffering,
hiding in a room
I am trying to ignore them.
No sleep is my doom.

This is something I wrote years ago when I was interested in poetry.

Seven Months

Seven months, since my first tear was shed.
Seven months, since my heart was torn to shreds.
Tears seemed the only thing I could invoke,
guilt accompanied sorrow in my lonely moat.
Time passes and the tears stop,
Memories fade and my heart no longer drops.
Is it that Ive forgotten or is it that Ive moved on?
Have I forgiven or do I still hold on.
Anger towards what youve taken from me,
for what you stole I can never get back.
Forgiveness will never be, can never be.
Though through time I will forget.

That is very good, Spiderlover.

Though I must wonder if one could ever forget when they cannot first forgive. And, of course, it is hard to forget when you create a mental landmark by virtue of the poem itself.

So, it is now years ago, not seven months. How do you feel about the message of the poem upon rereading it?

It's Good. "I like it!"

And Here's one of mine:

Blue.
The calm
Peace everlasting
Like banners of love
Waving on a summer's day.
Life
Forever
Animals of exquisite beauty
Each with out a care, remind me
of you.
Blues
In songs
The beat, the message
And the joy sprung from it
From the poets and the liars
Sprang you
Blue.

This is the only one of mine that got published.
