New Tyroc Look in LSH Thumbs up or down?

I don't like it.  I know he was there in part to be the ethnic stereotype in the 70's but his new look is almost identical to synch channeling Banshee in Generation X.

I read Issue #2 today. I saw Tyroc.

I later gave the comic to my girlfriend to read. Now I have returned to this thread and the only thing I remember about his costume was that it was red with some discs and that he had short hair.

So I guess that tells me how memorable and significant it is.   

One thing you could say about his original uniform, like it or not it was hard to forget.

Mike Grell also made him ridiculous on purpose.  He didn't like the character or concept to begin with.

A few of the costumes are so-so. They seem peripherally related to the original yet nothing to stand out on their own.

For example, Cosmic Boy. I can see from the lines how they are using the bustier and disks from the old look to tie it into the new one.

But the suit is kind of busy-looking. It is nothing I could mentally replicate nor is it really distinctive.

I am fine with Ultra-Boy (although I wish the chest emblem was thicker), Dawnstar, and most of the others.

Cosmic Boy and Tyroc got a failing grade from me though due to the lack of anything memorable or note-worthy.

I admire Mike Grell for his take on this character.  Tyroc trivialized all the things he was supposed to stand for.  I understand where the publishers were coming from, but Tyroc is outdated.  Let this stereotypical, racist character fade away...and introduce me to a new, fun, interesting, powerful character...who just happens to be black.

I can understand *why* they changed Tyroc's costume...but I don't like the new one at all...too bland.

Sensor Girl however...needs to either return to her space-hippy costume or her very regal "1st appearance" from the Baxter series. The eyes and cleavage look isn't working, and it sends the wrong "Sensor" message if you know what I mean.

I'm not crazy about the Gary Frank designs at all, with the exceptions of Shadow Lass, Lightning Lass, Lightning Lad, Dawnstar, and Phantom Girl (and even some of those could use a little simplification).  They're all way too busy with too many lines, too much texture in the material (the ribbed padding on Saturn Girl's costume for example), and so on.

I'd like Sensor Girl's costume better is they went back to the eyeholes from her original mask.

I like what little I've seen of Wildfire's new look.

Mon-El's Green Lantern outfit really kinda sucks.

As for Tyroc's new look, I'm not a huge fan of it, but I also don't hate it nearly as much as I hate, say, Shrinking Violet's.

Shrinking Violet is my favorite Legionnaire.  But I haven't seen anything of the new title. What does her suit look like? Have a link or anything?

Wow. That's really awful, isn't it?

It is totally uninspired. The V-cuts to the neckline and boots are typical of superheroes, who seem to like to throw the first letter of their name onto their costume. Perhaps the downward angle to the green on the front is supposed to represent her power, I don't know.

Any way I look at it, that costume is trite and garish. I'm sorry a character as great as Shrinking Violet got stuck with it. It would make me want to shrink out of sight too.
