Oh, good. I'm listening to that one now. I thought I'd missed it but I'm reasonably on-track. Thanks.

Bridge to Terabithia is an excellent movie. As you said in your podcast, Dex, it deftly illustrates how we use the power of imagination and the strength of those who support us to persevere through adversity.

Sometimes in a film you come across a character who you wish very much was someone who was real and whom you knew. AnnaSophia Robb's character is one such character for me.

I can find myself relating in many ways to the main character, Jess. So it is then even easier to vicariously experience the connection between him and Robb's character of Leslie.

This magnifies all of the emotions the film already easily invokes. And it certainly creates an even greater significance to its ending.

Thank you for reviewing it.

No problem.

I think I'll do HP 7a this week which I will be recording very soon.

First I have to write an adventure for my party. Good times in the Nentir Vale.

I've been compared to that character more than a few times.  Just the other day my friend's mom watched this movie for the first time and she said the character reminded her a lot of me, and she didn't even know me when I was REALLY like the character and always off in "my own little world".

She also finally understands why the movie makes me cry (she did too).

Never saw the current movie.  I read the book and saw the TV one in the 80's.  Perhaps I will check this out now.

You have to watch Duck Soup though.

I think I've gone on about Inception long enough but allow me to tell you what I thought of an earlier work of Nolan's The Prestige.

The plot is simple enough. Christian Bale kills Huge Action during the finale of his final performance as a magician and we then learn about the lives of both Huge Action and Christian Bale. We learn about how they spent their lives attempting to destroy one another.

The performances are solid and I have no reason to complain about the story, script or cinematography as they are all fairly impressive and indestuctable. Nolan imprints his style in an unobtrusive way and the story is told in an exciting and visually enthralling way. It suffers really only in one respect, the only thing that really dazzeled me was this:

David Bowie was not rubbish in it.

And when that's the most impressive thing about your movie, I don't think that it's quite up to scratch. You need to wow me make me think "Yes that bit was amazing." Unfortunately it just doesn't have that beyond "Wow Bowie sure does a good Tesla impression." I just felt like it needed somthing more to push it over the edge. (That being said I'll watch Andy Serkis in just about anything.)

A solid 4 and a strong recommendation.

I used to own the Prestige.  I watched it once and gave it to a friend because I found it hard to stay a wake through most of it.  You could have turned this whole movie into a 10 minute short and lose none of it's plot.

I just finished up watchingthe newest episode of doctor who.

To aviod spoilers lets just say that the plot was very... end of season spectatular. It went to a very dark and depressing place which I felt didn't suit the needs of an audience at the start of a season or of the tone of Dr Who in general. I'm supposed to be entertained, the feeble attempts at brightening the mood fell flat for me and I didn't come away from the episode feeling entertained. I felt depressed and more importantly skeptical of whats to come. I have only seen one part of the season and my brain is already flashing warning lights. That being said I liked the references back to keep the episode set in the continuiety of the show and the dialog was sharp and flowed naturally within the pace of the episode.

The pacing was excellent, that I will say. The episode never slowed too much nor did it accelerate and get ahead of it's self to give away vital information. All the actors played their parts spectacularly, and for once I actually cared about River Song.

Some of the ideas put foward by this episode I enjoyed, however I have an bad feeling that they will undo most of what has been set up in this episode in the next episode or later in the season. This is where Who is at it's weakest, when it ret-cons it's self into oblivion. This is only a prediction, but if this is how I as a moderate fan feels think of how a hardcore fan might feel with so many things set up that will almost certainly be "Tom Welling Prime Punch"ed out of continuety. I don't want to feel like that. I want to be excited about up coming episodes, not worried about dodgey ret cons and poor plot development.

Not a bad episode by any means, but not one that should open a new season.

I agree that it is a depressing, and possibly bad tone for the start of a season, but I don't think it is one that doesn't fit Dr. Who, the older episodes could get really dark at times.

I also am cautious about what to expect with this next season.  Moffat seems to be trying to push the envelope a lot with the concepts of time and reality and just how they work in the Whoniverse.  He's also gone on record saying that the cliffhanger for the mid-season break is going to put previous cliffhangers to shame.  So it may not be a total retcon.

Interesting.

I love who, and I also love the dark brooding 9th Doctor. I just don't think it's a positive start.

We always hear complaints about authors writing for the trade.  I get the feeling that this is a case of Moffat writing for the DVD's.  Even though it is broken up into two parts, he probably wants them viewed together as a whole as you would if you watched the DVD set.
